What to Watch Aug. 17-23

This week on TV: Shaq throws down, chefs book a trip to Vegas and the return of 'Runway.'

MONDAY, AUG. 17

Cake Boss'Cake Boss' (10PM, TLC) 1st season finale
All good things must come to an end, so even though Hoboken baker Buddy Valasco and his cake-bakin' buddies have been a great addition to the primetime line-up this summer, the first season comes to an end tonight. It does go out with a bang – literally – as Buddy goes to his son's school for "Bring Your Dad to School Day" and then concocts a fireworks-themed cake.

'Woodstock: Now & Then' – Celebrating 40th anniversary (8PM, History Channel)
'Glenn Martin DDS' – Dentist Glenn takes his fam on a permanent vacay (8PM, Nick) series premiere
'Dance Your Ass Off' – There's a major twist during eliminations (10PM, Oxygen)
'Weeds' – Esteban's daughter arrives (10PM, Showtime)

Shaq Vs.'Shaq Vs.' (9PM, ABC) series premiere
Oh that clever, clever Shaquille O'Neal. Getting in tip-top shape for the hoops season ahead is what inspired 'Shaq Vs.' in which the NBA star takes on his fellow superstar athletes ... in their sports. Tonight, it's Shaq vs. Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger in football skills tests, while future eps will pit Shaq against Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, boxing champ Oscar de La Hoya and MLB star Albert Pujols.

'HawthoRNe' – 1st season finale (9PM, TNT)
'Flipping Out' – 3rd season premiere (10PM, Bravo)
'Masters of Reception' – Reality series following a family of New Jersey wedding planners (10PM, TLC) Sseries premiere

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 19

Top Chef Las Vegas'Top Chef: Las Vegas' (9PM, Bravo) 6th season premiere
They may not battle to the death, but things get off to a bloody start in this newest season of 'Top Chef,' as the first Quickfire Challenge, a mis en place relay race, leads to some very scuffed up fingers for one contestant. There are 17 new chefs competing for the $100,000 prize, and celeb guests will include Natalie Portman, Nigella Lawson and Wolfgang Puck, but the real draw is the familiar faces: returning host Padma Lakshmi, and judges Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons and Toby Young.

Project Runway 6'Project Runway' (10PM, Lifetime) 6th season premiere
Oh big Gunn, how we've missed you. All the messy legal wrangling between Bravo and Lifetime meant our beloved 'Runway' has been MIA since last October, but it returns – on new homebase Lifetime – with 16 new competitors who will try to "make it work." Like the show itself, the competition has a new home – the action has moved from New York to Los Angeles – but 'Runway' stars Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia are all back in action.

'Project Runway: All-Star Challenge' – Eight former contestants compete (8PM, Lifetime)
'Real Housewives of Atlanta' – Kim has nanny issues (10PM, Bravo)
'Ace of Cakes' – The team makes a cake shaped like a guitar (10PM, Food Network)
'Royal Pains' – The Gardner family is trying to get Hank's medical license revoked (10PM, USA)
'Models of the Runway' – Competition series following the 'Project Runway' models (11PM, Lifetime) series premiere


FRIDAY, AUG. 21

Monk'Monk' (9PM, USA)
As Mr. Monk makes his way towards his December series finale, he makes an otherworldly pit stop tonight, as he investigates a young girl's disappearance, a mystery that seems to be linked to a UFO sighting. Tonight also features guest star Daniel Stern, the latest in a string of season eight pop-ins that will include Jay Mohr, Meat Loaf, Eric Balfour, Virginia Madsen and original Monk assistant Bitty Schram.

'Whale Wars' – Full-speed collision ahead (9PM, Animal Planet)
'Eureka' – Allison has a baby shower (9PM, Syfy)
'What Not to Wear' – Making over a mom who wears her teen's clothes (9PM, TLC)
'Jockeys' – 2nd season premiere (10PM, Animal Planet)

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, AUG. 22-23


True Blood'True Blood' (Sun., 9PM, HBO)
Sure, being mostly overlooked by the Emmy folks must sting a bit, but the 'True Blood' crew is getting the last laugh by avoiding a sophomore slump and becoming one of the most buzzed about shows of the summer with season two. And it's because of plot-packed episodes like tonight's installment, in which the travelers return to Bon Temps, where Bill tries to size up Maryann, Jason tries to help Sam and Sookie tries to reach Tara.

'Acceptance' – Joan Cusack is a mom trying to get her kid into college (Sat., 9PM, Lifetime)
'What Would Brian Boitano Make?' – The Olympian (and South Park spoof subject) cooks! (Sun., 1PM, Food Network) series premiere
