Update: Richard Hatch is in jail again!

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 19th 2009 9:29AM
HatchJust yesterday I posted the video of Richard Hatch's appearance on Today. Now just a day later the Survivor champ is in jail again.

Hatch's sister is saying that the reason why Hatch is in jail is because of the interview with Matt Lauer. There are no details yet on why he would be sent to jail because he talked to someone on a morning talk show (he did the interview from his home so he wasn't violating his home-confinement sentence) but his sister says that when the police came to take him, that's the reason the officer gave.

So now we have three reasons for Hatch being sent to jail. First he was sent to jail for not paying taxes on his winnings and his radio income. Then in the interview Hatch said he thinks he was sent to jail because he's gay. And now he was sent to jail because he talked to Matt Lauer. Something tells me it's something that came up in the interview that raised the eyebrow of the authorities, but who knows.

Stay tuned.

I was watching Way Too Early with Willie Geist this morning, and he called Lauer... ML said that not only had Hatch gone through the proper channels on his end, but that NBC had done so on their end.

Sure, Hatch's comments are pretty out there........... or are they?

Not only did he not leave his house, but both he and the network secured permission for this. And yet, he's in jail now. Why?

Seems to me, whether it's about him being gay or not, the prosecutor and some others have a pretty good hardon for the guy.

His story of being maliciously prosecuted is seeming more and more plausible.... unless you can answer the central point of the title of this thread: Why is he in jail?

It certainly isn't for tax evasion... he's paid his prison debt for that... So what? The prosecutor and judges up there can violate not only the 4th but 1st amendment rights of someone like this?

Whether you like Hatch or not, this does seem to be.... abnormal.

He only secured permission for one interview, not the two others he granted.

Prisoners under home confinement have to be granted permission for each individual interview given. Apparently he or his legal team did not do their homework and will now have to iron this out.

Will you please, please stop reporting on this loser?

WE DON'T CARE.

If you ignore him, he might just fade away...

How is it even legal to arrest someone without charges? Sounds like someone's 4th amendment rights were violated if what his sister said is true.

Not really. It would be against his rights if he were a free citizen, but if he is still a convict, which he was still under house arrest, they could bring him into custody for any violation of the terms of his house arrest.

Hatch was under house arrest and did not obtain permission to leave home to do the interview.

The interview was conducted at the house he was serving house arrest, so that is not correct.

The police told him that we was taken into custody because of an interview. That is according to his sister who was there when they took him.

At this point, does anyone believe what this guy says anymore? He first says he didn't pay taxes because he thought CBS took them out before he got his prize money. Yesterday he claimed he was sentenced because he was gay. I can only imagine what lame reason he will come up with in his next interview.

I've heard more believable stories on the Art Bell Show.
