Arrested Development movie update: not much of an update

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 27th 2009 12:29PM
Arrested DevelopmentIt's been a while since we heard any news about that Arrested Development movie that might be happening, might not be happening, was being written, was being thought about, etc. Now comes word from Jason Bateman that the movie is still a go and it's still being written as we speak.

Bateman tells Collider.com that Mitch Hurwitz is still writing the script, and once that's done they have to get the scheduling of the filming down (which won't be easy with so many cast members).

When asked if all of the stars are coming back, Bateman says that Hurwitz doesn't want to announce anything about that just yet. Which I'm sure a lot of people will read as "Michael Cera hasn't said yes yet."

I'm curious though: do you want to see an Arrested Development movie? Sure, the show was great, but do you think that a movie, if it's not as great as the show, will diminish your memory of it? Or do you want to see a movie regardless, and you trust Hurwitz and company to do something smart and funny?

Considering Michael Cera has all the range of a toaster oven, we've already had several updates on his "Arrested Development" character even without the reunion. Not trying to be mean but he does the exact same character in every project.

I hope it gets made and that Hurwitz is a genius with this whole "Michael Cera hasn't said yes yet" is a huge inside joke.

It would be perfect for the movie to come out, and they have another actor playing George Michael throughout the whole thing with a buncha jokes sprinkled throughout making mention of it:

ex. "George Michael, you're growing up so fast. It's like I hardly know you anymore"

Then have him come in for 2 seconds before the ending credits or something. Totally inline with the vibe of the show.

Or just replace him with Anyong. Either way, comedy gold :)

That would be the perfect solution. Like casting GOB's soap opera girlfriend.
