NBC Delays 'Southland' & More TV News

NBC pushes 'Southland' to October, Josh Schwartz lands a comedy deal with NBC, Style renews 'Giuliana & Bill' and more of today's top TV headlines.
NBC has delayed the season 2 premiere of 'Southland' by one month. The cop drama will now debut Fri., Oct. 23, at 9PM, moving it away from the Sept. 25 premieres of 'Medium' (CBS) and Fox's 'Dollhouse.' In the meantime, NBC will air 'Dateline' in 'Southland''s timeslot until it premieres. [Variety]
'Gossip Girl' scribe Josh Schwartz is partnering with Matt Miller ('Chuck') to write a new multi-camera comedy series for CBS. The untitled series will be about a newlywed couple who start their new life together, with the pilot set just after their honeymoon. As Schwartz might write ... OMG. [Hollywood Reporter]
Good news for 'E! News' host Giuliana Rancic: Style has renewed the popular reality series 'Giuliana and Bill,' which follows her long-distance marriage with 'Apprentice' winner Bill Rancic. The show will return for a second season after a strong showing in the ratings, with production scheduled to begin this September. 'Giuliana and Bill''s season 1 finale airs Oct. 7. [Variety]
Fox and Sony TV are currently planning a TV adaptation of 'Heathers,' based on the 1989 clique flick starring Winona Ryder, Shannen Doherty and Christian Slater. Mark Rizzo will write the adaptation -- which is expected to feature many of the film's original characters -- with the help of 'Sex and the City''s Jenny Bicks (pictured). [Variety]
'Samantha Who?' alum Melissa McCarthy is back on the job. McCarthy -- who also played Sookie on the critically lauded 'Gilmore Girls' -- will star as Dawn, Kelsey Grammer's sister-in-law, on the new ABC series 'Hank.' 'Hank' premieres Wed., Sept. 30, at 8PM. [Ausiello Files]
Lennie James has joined the cast of 'Lie to Me' season 2. The 'Jericho' star will appear on the show's fifth episode as Ray Marsh, Dr. Lightman's (Tim Roth) nemesis who returns after a 20-year absence.
