American Idol tries to annoy me to death with guest judges

katy perry american idolI'm not a giant fan of guest judges on American Idol. I don't mind when musicians come in during the later rounds to mentor the contestants, but guest judges during auditions just kind of throw off the dynamic of the judging. However, recent judges like Kristen Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris are awesome enough that I totally don't mind them showing up. Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry? Well, that's an entirely different story.

FOX has announced that the "I Kissed a Girl" singer will be guest-judging the final two days of the Los Angeles auditions along with Lavigne, who from what I remember from 2003, is an angry Canadian. If I was asked to think of two people that I would enjoy watching less, I would be hard-pressed to come up with anyone. Wait, okay. Heidi and Spencer Pratt would be worse, but that's just a given, right?

American Idol is not the VMAs. People don't tune in to hear a faux-lesbian and a faux-punk judge the would-be talent. They tune in to hear Simon yell at them, and for Randy to call them "dawg." It was bad enough that we had Perry and others on nearly every week last season for performances on the filler... er, results shows. I don't need them at the judges' table as well.

If Fox would only give Paula what she wants, there wouldn't have to be guest judges at the auditions, something which is completely unfair to auditioners as well as viewers. It is just not right to place contestants' dreams into the hands of Victoria Beckham or Neil Patrick Harris. Not only that, without Paula, a significant piece is missing from the Idol formula. Kara does not mesh with Simon and Randy the way Paula did, and neither do all these superfluous guest judges. Paula was a huge, vital part of Idol. Nobody could ever replace her, and the show will not be the same without her. And what will happen during Hollywood Week? Will there be guest judges for that, too? Fox needs to get moving before the next stage of Season 9 and make a deal with Paula that will make her come back, and make her STAY.

STILL hoping Lulu (To Sir, with Love) a guest mentor one season comes on as a guest judge. Would also be cool to see Linda Ronstadt and one of the B-52 girls Kate or Cindy.

I much prefer the rotating guest judges to Paula Abdul, and am especially looking forward to Avril Lavigne and Kristen Chenoweth.

The show doesn't need judges. People at home should be allowed to vote in every stage of the show (Even preliminary auditions). We've had plenty of seasons, and at this point all 4 crackheads at that table are simply reading their responses off of their papers anyway.

I'm a better judge than anyone at that table. I could have told you that no one cared about Blake Lewis from day 1.
