Charles Gibson retires World News NowCharles Gibson will step down as anchor of ABC's 'World News' at the end of this year. The decision was reportedly made after long conversations with David Westin, president of ABC News. Taking over for Gibson will be 'Good Morning America' host Diane Sawyer, beginning this January. Avril Lavigne American IdolAvril Lavigne is the latest star lined up to guest judge 'American Idol.' Lavigne will appear during one of season 9's callback auditions in Los Angeles -- the same city that will host Katy Perry. Lavigne joins a growing list of celebrity judges this season, including Neil Patrick Harris, Mary J. Blige and Joe Jonas. See the full list here. [EW.com]

Mad Men renewedAMC is still mad for 'Mad Men.' The network has picked up the Emmy-nominated series for a fourth season, following a two-year deal creator Matthew Weiner signed back in January. 'Mad Men' is currently in its third season, airing Sundays at 10PM on AMC. [Variety]

Steve Buscemi Boardwalk EmpireHBO has ordered 11 episodes of 'Boardwalk Empire,' a new series from writer Terrence Winter and executive producer Martin Scorsese. Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt will star in the series, about a gangster-politician (Buscemi) who rules 1920s Atlantic City. 'Boardwalk Empire' is slated to premiere in 2010. [Hollywood Reporter]

Lena Headey Game of ThronesLena Headey ('Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles') has joined the cast of HBO's upcoming drama 'Game of Thrones.' Headey will play Queen Ceresi of House Lannister, the wife of Mark Addy's King Robert. Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau also co-star. [Hollywood Reporter]
