America's Got Talent: Top 20 results show one
(S04E22) It's time to narrow down the talent field to the Top 8 acts who will perform in the final round of this season's America's Got Talent. They'll get the chance to win a million, as well as perform on the Vegas Strip in a special show hosted by ex-AGT host Jerry Springer. This week's results show featured a special performance from The Hoff himself. Did he give a performance worthy to be Xed, or did he deliver the goods? My two cents, as well as which first four acts are moving to the final round coming up!
Arcadian Broad, The Texas Tenors and Drew Thomas Magic are the first up to learn their fate. As soon as Nick confirmed that only one of these acts was going through, I knew it would be The Texas Tenors even if I was rooting for Drew. To my displeasure, Nick quickly sent Drew and his team packing. This decision was not surprising, since Drew served us a trick he's performed before on the show, just in a different setting. Once again, magicians do not make it to the AGT finals. Will we ever see the day? Nick then confirmed my hunch, The Texas Tenors are going to the finals. Will Arcadian blame his loss on the producers making him perform the High School Musical act?
The Muppets perform "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." It was a fun filler, but didn't bring much else to the results show.
Next up are Grandma Lee, Tony Hoard and Rory and Paradizo Dance. Once again, only one act is going through. My money is on Grandma Lee since she is so entertaining, real and funny. The first act sent packing is Paradizo Dance. As the crowd screams "Grandma Lee, Grandma Lee," Nick gives his usual "the next act going through..." He then tells us what we want to hear: Grandma Lee! Yay! We'll get more Hoff, Grandma Lee, Piers lovin' jokes.
It's now time for a Hofftastic performance by David Hasselhoff. My expectations were extremely low, so it turned out that the Hoff surprised me. His facial expressions and moves were a bit too soapish for my taste but his singing wasn't bad at all. The routine was well choreographed and performed. You could see David had fun on stage, and it resonated with the crowd. David is not the best performer out there, but he showed that he does have some talent and can give a fair singing performance. This act may help a few viewers understand why The Hoff is part of the jury ... if only he didn't check his common sense at the door when it's time to vote....
It's time for the remaining acts to step forward: Kevin Skinner, Acrodunk, The Voices of Glory and the Fab 5. Unsurprisingly, Kevin Skinner gets the third spot. It was fun to see Nick remind Kevin that he promised Sharon a huge smile. There's only one spot left for the three remaining acts. The Acrodunk members are told they are not moving on. I'm bummed because they were extremely entertaining and daring. Plus their act would have added some diversity to the Top 8.
That leaves The Voices of Glory and Fab 5 on stage waiting to hear who is getting the final spot. As soon as Nick said they came in fourth and fifth in the votes, I knew the producers decided to keep having the judges decide which act would get the final spot. Argh! Don't they read the viewers comments?!? We HATE it when the judges decide the final spot! Why make us vote then?!
Sharon says that she can't decide. As she's done before, she has the guys decide first. David says he can't decide either and passes it to Piers. Piers says they either send them both packing or keep them both. Piers says that there would be no judges' pick and that both The Voices of Glory and Fab 5 are going to the finals.
So we will have a Top 9 instead of 8 unless the judges decide again next week that they can't decide, which means we will get a Top 10. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad both acts got through to the finals. However, this year's rules said a Top 8, why not stick to that? Rules are rules, no? As Piers said there would be no judges' pick, I wish he would have told Nick they would go with America's decision, and then ask him to announce who was fourth. What do you think? Are you happy with the judges' decision? Would you have preferred that they give the fourth spot to the act that placed fourth in votes?
So far the Top 8 9 is composed of:
- 3 singing acts: The Texas Tenors, Kevin Skinner, The Voices of Glory
- 1 comedy act: Grandma Lee
- 1 dance act: Fab 5
Were you able to predict the first four five acts in the Top 8 9? Do you think America made the right choices? Let your voice be heard in comments below!
