Oprah schedules her show's premiere week lineup, Megan Mullally joins 'Party Down,' NBC plans a 'Prime Suspect' remake and more of today's top TV headlines.
Oprah Winfrey has booked a number of A-list stars for her 24th season's upcoming debut week, beginning Sept. 14. Kicking off the week will be a two-part interview with Whitney Houston (Sept. 14 and 15), followed by a look back at the career of Michael Jackson on Sept 16. Dr. Phil will then make his first 'Oprah' appearance in seven years on Thursday (Sept 16), while Mariah Carey, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa will close out the week on Sept. 18. Megan Mullally ('Will & Grace') has joined the cast of 'Party Down' season 2. The Emmy winner will play Lydia Dunfree on the Starz comedy series, a middle-aged mother who escapes a bad small-town marriage with her 13-year-old daughter, Escapade, an aspiring Hollywood actress. [Hollywood Reporter]
NBC is planning a remake of the hit U.K. drama series 'Prime Suspect,' which starred Oscar winner Helen Mirren ('The Queen'; TV's 'Elizabeth I'). 'Without a Trace' scribe Hank Steinberg will write the two-hour pilot, about Det. Chief Inspector Jane Tennison, a homicide detective who must juggle her work with her "equally harrowing personal life." [Variety]
Rick Fox is moving in to 'Melrose Place.' Fox has reportedly landed a recurring role on the CW remake, playing the owner of the restaurant where many of the show's characters work. 'Melrose Place' premieres Tue., Sept. 8 at 9PM. [Hollywood Reporter]
HBO has given the OK to 'Enlightened,' a new single-camera comedy pilot from writer Mike White ('School of Rock'). Laura Dern will star in the pilot as a self-destructive woman who tries to live an enlightened life after having a spiritual awakening. [Hollywood Reporter]
'True Blood''s Mehcad Brooks is about to take a bite out of ABC's legal drama 'The Deep End.' Brooks will join the cast as a series regular, playing Malcolm Bennet, one of the firm's associates. 'The Deep End' premieres at midseason. [Hollywood Reporter]
'Smallville' alum Kristin Kreuk has joined 'Chuck' for multiple episodes. Kreuk will play Hannah, a girl whom Chuck meets on a plane ride to Paris.
