Are you going to watch The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon?

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 5th 2009 9:09AM
Jerry LewisWhen I was a kid, watching The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Labor Day was a must. It was just fun to have this all day, all night, live event happening every September. One year I even stayed up all night watching it (the next morning I knew it wasn't worth it).

The show isn't looked at as "hip" anymore (if it ever was), but along with the older showbiz vets we always see there are some new acts mixed in too. Are you going to watch it?

Are you going to watch the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon?
Yes, I watch it every year.128 (21.0%)
I'll check in just to see how Jerry is this year.131 (21.5%)
No way.351 (57.5%)

Jerry is losing it. Inapproiate remarks to 10 year olds. Seems like he is always agravated to whom ever he is talking to. I just saw him walk off the stage because the band interupted him. Saying they can GD do it without me. He is a trainwreck and the show is boring as hell. Time to find another way to help MDA

I always try to catch Gary Lewis on the MDA telethon. His songs bring back so many memories of me listening to oldies with my father...

I'd rather have flaming sticks poked in my eyes.

The few times I've seen it over the years has always made me think I'm watching a parody, but no, it always turns out to be the actual telethon. It's probably completely beyond parody at this point.

I pretty much agree w/ MCW's second paragraph - although I can't count myself as an early Lewis fan either. The only thing I've ever liked him in is "King of Comedy".

I don't like it. Something is very wrong to me about companies giving money to a disorder simply to get their names on TV. And at that, giving .0007% of what they made in the past year to charity publicly.

And Jerry is sadly just creepy at this point. I love his older movies, but unfortunately, I think he's in Mel Gibson territory. Old, racist, misogynist, ultra-serious, un-funny. I don't know what to think when I see him anymore.

Who cares why these companies give so much money? You should only care about that they give it.

Why do you call him a racist? He loved "Cassius Clay" and Sammy Davis Jr was his best friend -- he said so.
