Chris Brown is ticked off at Oprah

by Allison Waldman, posted Sep 5th 2009 10:02AM
chris_brownYesterday, we wrote about Chris Brown's appearance on Larry King Live, where he tried to ameliorate his image. As Jane pointed out, Chris didn't really say very much. On the other hand, in the new People magazine, Brown has opened up and put his foot directly in his mouth. Chris Brown is ticked off with Oprah Winfrey and thinks she owes him an apology. Or so it seems.

Brown was offended that Oprah did a show last March about domestic violence, based on Brown's public assault on his lover, the singer Rihanna. The incident took place in a car after they had both been to the Grammys. Brown was found guilty, ordered to stay away from Rihanna, sentenced to five years of probation, one year of domestic violence counseling, and six months of community service.

When Oprah did the show about domestic violence, Brown says he was hurt that she made him the poster boy for the issue. Brown felt Oprah had been too hard on him, and expected her to show more allegiance to him because he had sung at Oprah's school. He actually told People, "I commend Oprah on being like, 'This is a problem,' but it was a slap in my face."

Yes, he used that turn of phrase -- "slap in my face." Excuse me, Chris, but you just don't get it.

Today, Oprah responded to his comment through her press rep. "Oprah is very appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school, but she takes domestic abuse very seriously. She hopes he gets the counseling he needs."

All the counseling in the world may not help this man understand that what he did cannot be forgiven for hitting a woman just because he's a talented singer. Oprah didn't owe him a free pass for his behavior simply because he'd done something philanthropic for her school.

If anyone owes anyone an apology, Brown does. He needs to apologize to the public for being so clueless.

you don't have to be a bad person, to do bad things. but a woman beater is really a coward, but projecting his anger (usually about is failures) on someone that is unable to compete really sucks. if she had a black belt in martial arts i bet his memory would be crystal clear, because that fight wouldn't have happened. woman beaters know who to pick on. all women should take self defense classes. just in case someone wants to use you as a munching bag.

I do believe he is sincere, and i'm not saying what he did was right, But he made a mistake and he's paying for it.Sure he's a famous singer and also a HUMAN BEING.We all make mistakes,so get off his back and Oprah was wrong for what she did,i think. She picked the oppurtunity to add more pain to his suffering and that was wrong,of all people to do that(Mrs.Sumaritan).She does owe Chris an apology and evry1 else needs to let it alone.

I agree his is speaking too much now, because people like you (most comments here) have all the more fodder to put him down - the "idiot", the "moron." I have followed CB for a long time, and do believe he's a very sincere kid, and is sorry and wants to tell people. But its backfiring on him. And Oprah's show - when I saw it I also thought she was throwing mud, classifying him in with all the wife-beaters in the world who "will ALWAYS hit you again." It didn't sound then that she was suggesting he get counseling. Just that the women should get away from these monsters (like Chris Brown). That's how I heard it, and I think he did too.

Give this kid a break. PR and public speaking are not his talents. He never finished high school. He is a very talented singer/dancer, and I for one want to see hear more from him ASAP, and in the years he has ahead of him.

if he was really as sorry as he says he is... if he really realizes how wrong what he did was and how prevalent a problem domestic violence is... then he should be happy that some good could come out of this horrible situation. he should also realize that Oprah (or anyone else) using him as an example is way less humiliation than he deserves.

Poor baby.

I've seen bits and pieces of the Larry King interview and I don't think this guy fully gets just how wrong he was. He acts more like it's just something normal. I see very little contrition.

I am so glad Chris Brown is making the public relations circuit. There's nothing more entertaining than an idiot.

This dude is a moron. He seems completely clueless to the fact that his image is tainted as a woman beater. All of his efforts to clear his name just bring back into light his willingness to beat the crap out of women and his inability to accept that he is seen by the public as a violent a-hole.

I'm glad Oprah's rep said it like it is: "Oprah hopes Chris gets the counseling he needs."
