The Vampire DiariesBetween 'Twilight' and 'True Blood,' vampires have sucked the competition dry in movies and television lately, turning everything they touch into big ratings and lots and lots of cash.

The CW recently experienced this trend for itself when 'The Vampire Diaries' debuted to 4.9 million viewers last week, making it the network's most-watched series debut ever.

This made me wonder: What if the CW, a network that still struggles to gain a wider audience, used vampires more often? Would 'Gossip Girl' and '90210' become more popular? Would 'Smallville' live on for another nine seasons?
