Now it seems NOBODY cares about Heroes

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 22nd 2009 1:34PM
Greg GrunbergThe ratings for the first Monday of the fall TV season are in, and it's not looking good at all for Heroes.

The NBC show dropped 46% from last season's one hour season opener. Which reminds me, Heroes should never be two hours long. Last night's first hour was boring as hell, and then the second hour was more interesting but still muddy, frustrating, and all over the place.

In other ratings news, House did really well, CBS came in second, and Dancing with the Stars didn't do as well as people thought it would (or it usually does).

I struggled through the 2nd Season, but it had already started to lose me. Season 3 pretty much killed it as far as I was concerned.

I could make a few suggestions, but why bother? TV execs are morons.

This season looks very intriguing. Is the carnival good or bad. Will the heroes step up, like Peter, and become real heroes or are they destined to continue the fight amongst themselves. If this season is no more than pitting one group of ability enhanced critically flawed humans against another then I think it will be the last one. But if these humans can morph into true heroes working together to right wrongs, fight evil, then I think it will rebuild it's rep. I have to agree, an overarching enemy (not a bad hero) would be a good direction to go. (Yeah I have to admit this sounds like a league of superheroes.

I have to say I am one of many people who thought Heroes took a dive in the second season and hadn't a clue what it was doing last season, so much so that it was a chore to watch. That said I was pleasantly surprised by the season pilot this year, it may never be as good as the first season, but so far this was a lot better than the last two. I think too Peter was almost the voice of the audience in this episode, particularly the way he dismissed Noah's suspicions and asked why he didn't just give the guy the compass.

I gave up after the first 2 episodes last season. Before that, I begrudgingly sat through the second season, hoping for the magic that was there in the first, but it never returned. Now Heroes is just a show I used to watch. On a happy note, House was awesome last night.

Season 1 was pretty good, Season two sucked and watching it reminded me of what homework was like back in high school. My tivo was set to record it automatically last night, but I cancelled the season pass - I just can't bear to watch any more heroes. Plus I missed the last 5-6 episodes of last season (I gave up around episode 17 or so), so I'd be lost anyway. Just end the show, I'm sure Jay Leno can do an extra hour that night. Not that I'd watch that either.

I think "they", whoever keeps greenlighting the next season, and the writers themselves, should find a way to end this season with the series finale. If that means extending our current season 6 episodes longer, that's great.

They just cannot keep dragging it out... Lost's creators were smart enough to mark the end of their series when they didn't have to, so Heroes should be smart enough to end on their own terms, and not start right back over with Sylar again, like they're already attempting to do.

Spin-offs with one or more characters would be fine, but people aren't going to keep returning to the same cast & plot season after season, without major developments.

I've officially stopped watching Heroes. Unfortunately that means almost every show I now watch is on Thursdays.

I didn't even know that Heroes premiered last night, which might be part of the problem. For the past three years, NBC hyped each of Heroes' returns from summer/winter hiatus, but this year, not so much. I knew about Jay's new show and 'Mercy,' due to promos on other networks, on-line, but Heroes, not so much. It's possible NBC wants to avoid overspending on the promos in case this is the final year.

I'm glad someone else noticed the lack of advertisment by NBC. I believe it was the beginning of the 2nd season when they gave Heroes the red carpet treatment with a 'countdown to heroes' pre show. Now this season barely a mention that it was coming back.

To paraphrase Tina Turner, we don't need another Heroes!
