J.J. Abrams Lands Fox Medical Comedy & More TV News

Abrams books a medical comedy series for Fox, Clifton Collins joins 'Southland,' Bill Condon reteams with Laura Linney on Showtime's 'The C-Word' and more of today's top TV headlines.J.J. Abrams'Lost' creator J.J. Abrams is on board to executive produce a new half-hour comedy series for Fox. The untitled series is currently being billed as a "comedic medical show," with further details yet to be announced. Mike Markowitz ('Becker'; 'It's All Relative') will write the pilot. Clifton Collins SouthlandClifton Collins ('Capote'; 'Sunshine Cleaning') will replace Amaury Nolasco ('Prison Break') in the NBC police drama 'Southland.' Nolasco signed on as a series regular in August, and went on to play Det. Lydia Adams' (Regina King) annoying new partner in three episodes. In the meantime, Collins will play a new character, who is "still being fleshed out." No word yet on why Nolasco is being replaced. [Hollywood Reporter]

Bill Condon The C-WordOscar winner Bill Condon ('Gods and Monsters'; 'Dreamgirls') will direct the upcoming Showtime pilot 'The C-Word,' starring Laura Linney. The series, about a suburban mother who is diagnosed with cancer, will reteam Condon and Linney for the first time since 2004's 'Kinsey,' which earned Linney an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Steven SpielbergShowtime and Steven Spielberg are about to put on a show. The pair is reportedly in talks with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ('Chicago'), as well as Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman ('Hairspray'), to develop a new scripted series about the staging of an original Broadway musical, from its early development all the way up to its opening night. Kevin Federline Celebrity Fit ClubKevin Federline has reportedly signed up for the next season of VH1's 'Celebrity Fit Club.' Sources say K-Fed will be joined by ex-girlfriend and baby mama Shar Jackson when the new season premieres Feb. 14, 2010. For everyone's sake, we hope it's better than 'Chaotic.' [PEOPLE]
