Did the Trauma team seem really reckless?

by Jane Boursaw, posted Oct 1st 2009 2:02PM
TraumaI watched the series premiere of Trauma the other night (which, quite frankly, I probably won't be watching, because I've already got enough trauma in my own life without watching other peoples' trauma on TV), but one of the things I thought while watching the show was, "Who hired these people anyway?"

I'm not talking about the actors. I'm talking about the fictional trauma team on the show. Much of the trauma they dealt with was trauma that they themselves caused, including the mid-air helicopter crash at the beginning and the scene later where one of the team drives recklessly through the streets and takes a guy's finger off in the process. I don't know about you, but if this team was in my town, I'd be looking for a recall or some firings or something!

What's next? A giant pile-up on the freeway because one of the team was texting while driving? Or perhaps one of them will crack under the pressure, strap on a bomb, and head for the nearest mall.

I thought it was awful. Outside the initial helicopter crash (which seemed moronic, at best), nothing impressed me. They all seemed overly egotistic, brash and unconcerned. Ugh.

What a bore! A cast totally free of chemistry, charisma or acting skills. There is NO reason to be interested in what happens on this show. DOA.

Don't worry...as someone who lives in SF and has been visiting the filming locations regularly, even the cast and crew know this show isn't going to last. You expect some disgruntled responses from crew here and there, but these guys are just sucking down the paycheck while they can.

There's an event coming up that takes place in Golden Gate Park. They filmed it just last week. One of the funniest off-camera scenes was the director trying to get everyone back into position for a take. He resorted to yelling "Come on people...we aren't even off the air yet..." A little Freudian slip I'd say. The cast, crew and even the police redirecting traffic chuckled. They know.

it was over the top, but i'll stick with it a little longer. that ER hole is huge, and the one with buffy's sister out and out sucked.

Those things you mentioned are exactly the point, really. The first thing wasn't the fault of the pilot/medics and the second was the fallout from the first. But most of the crazier stuff was Rabbit, and he's mostly messed up because of the crash (though he seemed hotdog-ish even before it).

I assume they'll be going more into exactly why there was the mid-air collision. That second chopper came out of nowhere, whipping around the building; nothing much they could do about that. I wonder if it might have been a news chopper.

As for the second example, that was kind of the point. That Rabbit is barely in control and absolutely *shouldn't* be on the team.

I gave up after the tanker truck blew up. I have a lot of friends who are paramedics and was one for a short time, and wow was it annoying watching that.
