FlashForward Fans of the new sci-fi show 'FlashForward' now have something new to watch for when they peer into the future: more episodes.

ABC announced yesterday that the new drama, which has been compared by many critics to fan-favorite 'Lost' thanks to its labyrinthine plot about people who glimpsed their own future, has been picked up for a full slate of 22 episodes. Airing Thursdays at 8PM opposite perennial powerhouse 'Survivor', 'FlashForward' has more than held its own, becoming the first show since 2004 to beat 'Survivor' in the key adult 18-49 demographic.

Another factor in ABC's decision may have been DVR usage; over the first week, the series was number one among new shows in DVR playback, gaining two million viewers as a result. Historically, strong DVR playback has often been a sign of a dedicated fan base, with shows such as 'Lost' and 'The Office' noted for their DVR followings. In addition, 'FlashForward' has shown strong gains over last year's numbers in the time slot, with a jump of 1.8 million viewers compared to 'Ugly Betty' a year ago, including a whopping 32 percent increase in the 18-49 demographic.

Of course, being able to look six months into the future, the producers of 'FlashForward' no doubt already knew they would be renewed. But for the rest of us, this announcement comes as good news.

How good, though, we won't know until April 29.
