NBC Dials Up 'Reno 911!' Writers

Reno 911Sound the alarm: According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC has tapped 'Reno 911!' co-creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant to spearhead a new comedy project for the network. The two will act on-screen and serve as executive producers.

Lennon and Garant both have considerable writing experience -- for the big screen, they recently penned both 'Night at the Museum' films. At the same time, they've enjoyed cult success as actors beginning with MTV's 'The State,' a sketch comedy show based on the comedy troupe they formed (which formed the basis of 'the 'Reno 911!' ensemble cast).Reno 911Sound the alarm: According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC has tapped 'Reno 911!' co-creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant to spearhead a new comedy project for the network. Major network exposure, however, is something that Lennon and Garant have never had until now. NBC is gambling on their cult status and strong writing résumés to bring something new to the table; and at first glance this looks like a wise move for the network. While the two aren't necessarily household faces, their humor blends a decisive and sharp wit with an occasional reliance on sight gags that fans of '30 Rock' would appreciate.

Lennon's other film credits as an actor include 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,' 'Balls of Fury,' and 'Hancock.' Should you be interested in studying up on Lennon and Garant's work with The State -- and we wholeheartedly suggest you do -- the entire series was released on DVD this past July.
