Mia Michaels is quitting So You Think You Can Dance?

Mia Michaels (left) with Mary Murphy and Nigel LythgoeSo You Think You Can Dance may never be the same again. In all-capitalized Twitter messages, Mia Michaels has announced that she is quitting. The last of the three messages read:

"THANKS SYTYCD AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHATS AHEAD FOR ME...LOOKOUT WORLD!!!!!"

It's really weird seeing that Mia has been not only an anchor for the choreographers and judges, but she has been so enthusiastic about season six being on of the best seasons. She has also left a message on her Facebook account with similar sentiments.

Mia Michaels wasn't the same strict choreographer last night in Vegas' callbacks. She was calm and organic with her teaching.

There hasn't been any official statements from Fox or Nigel Lythgoe yet, but Twitter feeds and Facebook posts these days are almost enough for full credibility. I can't help but think that this is related to the news of Adam Shankman being the permanent third judge on SYTYCD. I'm probably just rumor mongering, but it seems like weird timing that she was involved in casting for season six, then dropping out.

While I'm going to miss Mia Michaels, I'm hoping that a break from SYTYCD will sharpen her choreography which was amazing a few seasons ago, she peaked at season three. After that, they have gotten less and less impressive. The final two women's performance last year was actually just a rehash of a final two men's performance back in season three. This leaves open spots for more contemporary pieces from Mandy Moore, Stacey Tookey, Travis Wall and my personal favorite Sonya Tayeh.

Are you going to miss Mia Michaels? Leave comments below.

Please, please say it's true. I'll be the first one to go out on a limb here and admit I hate Mia. I don't like her personality, and don't think much of her as a choreographer either.

Maybe now there'll be a chance that it'll stop being the "So You Think You Can Dance Contemporary/Lyrical" show. (Yeah, I know they throw some hip-hop in for the sake of "See, we do other forms too", but still.)

This is so incredibly sad. I actually cried when I read this earlier. I lovvvvvve Mia and without her or the rotating judges, I am not sure I will stick with the show.

Hmm. I hadn't heard about SYTYCD UK version. It would be a terrific move for her to be a permanent judge on that show. Or maybe she's tired of choreographing on a small scale; I dunno'.

Anyway, she'll be missed.

NOOOOOOO! Now all we have is Tyce Diorio (aka the man who ruined season 5) and Mandy Moore. Mandy's okay at jazz but her contemporary is often very... textbook. But this past season, between Wade Robson and Brian Friedman returning, there was just no room for other contemporary/jazz/funk choreographers. Everyone was spread to thin. You couldn't count on a good Mia routine practically every week. GET STACEY TOOKEY ON THE PHONE NOW!

Hip hop sucks thanks to Tabitha and Napoleon and how they're used as the initial watermark in Vegas so everyone can go through and then suck at real hip hop from the likes of Shane Sparks or Dave Scott.

Ballroom and latin suck now too. Because of Tony and Melanie's tired work. And the lack of rhythm dances---I never thought Alex Da Silva was a good choreographer or much of a good person, but a season without salsa or mambo was upsetting. Four sambas, really? Three terrible sambas? Really? It's a shame Kelly Osbourne is doing so well---Louis van Amstel was the best thing in the ballroom arena last year.

Mia gave this program some heartiness.

SYTYCD will not be the same without Mia's outstanding choreography & witty personality. I'll really miss seeing her special pieces. I'm hoping this is all just some sort of joke and that she'll really stay with the show.

The dancers seem to really admire her. I enjoy her pieces.

The longer post says that it's her official resignation from the US show -- not the show, but the US show. Coincidentally, the UK show is starting early next year. Hmmm...

Mia has been on SYTYCD Canada a bunch this season as well. She choreagraphed a dance just last Tuesday the 13th.

The American auditions are taped, while this was live, so it would have been her most recent appearance. I don't watch the American version, was her head shaved? If not, newsflash, her head is now very much buzzcutted.
