The CW has announced details of their slate of new shows currently in development and according to The Hollywood Reporter, everything old is new again as the network has tapped the creators behind such proven hits as 'The L Word', 'Veronica Mars' and 'One Tree Hill' to helm a lineup featuring dancers, spies and teens in space. For the music drama 'Nashville', 'One Tree Hill' producer Mark Schwahn is teaming with country music star Brad Paisley, who will write music for and appear as himself in the series, which follows the lives of up-and-coming country singers and songwriters.
Schwahn isn't putting all his eggs in one basket, though; he's also providing The CW with the self-explanatory 'Spy School For Girls', based on a forthcoming book by former spy and co-producer Larry Kolb.
He isn't the only veteran turning to books or music for inspiration: 'The L Word' creator Ilene Chaiken combines both in her adaptation of the popular novel 'Confessions of a Backup Dancer'. The show, which chronicles the life of a girl who lands a job as a backup dancer for a major pop star, is being produced by Alloy Entertainment, which gave the network 'Vampire Diaries' and 'Gossip Girl'.
Another name familiar to CW fans is 'Veronica Mars' creator Rob Thomas, who will be returning to the network with 'Plymouth Rock', a sci-fi drama about a group of young folks sent off in a spaceship to colonize a distant planet in order to save humanity. Joining Thomas will be the rest of his 'Mars' producing team, Danielle Stokdyk, Jennifer Gwartz, and Dan Etheridge, who also helped Thomas with cult favorites 'Party Down' and 'Cupid'.
Other highlights from The CW's new lineup include 'The March Sisters', which is creatively described as 'Little Women' meets 'Sex and the City'; 'Cheer', an examination of cheerleading produced by 'Smallville' star Tom Welling; and a look into the cutthroat world of equestrians that could only be titled 'Bitches in Britches.'
