Is the White House right about Fox News?

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 20th 2009 5:36PM
Fox NewsYou may have heard that the White House seems to have declared war on Fox News. President Obama has even gone as far as not appearing on one of the Fox News Sunday morning shows even though he appeared on every other network that morning. Now other White House spokespeople are openly saying that the network can't be trusted.

What do you think?

Control the media, control the people. When Bush, was being blasted into the ground,we did not hear the White House hui' and cry, they understood first amendment rights.
It is rather childish to ask a free press to say... if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all.
I much prefer a free press to a government controlled media-ocracy. It is the right of every American to dissent and take action with a vote. If you don't like what is being said don't listen. America at this point is suffering from a bad case of the Empror's New Clothes--fall in line with what you are told to see or keep your mouth shut.
Obama may be an honest guy and just trying to do his job, but he is being hand fed in order to manipulate a greater political agenda. If he chooses to chastise the free press then he is becoming divisive, his way or the highway is not the American Way.
Statistics like polls can be manipulated to create an outcome--when will Obama support the Constitution instead of trying to change it. It is what made America great.
What I want to know is when he will become his own man and unite the country instead of controlling it. Tell the politicos to kiss their agenda good-bye.
Take a look---the PTA Mom, who still is trying to control her children, while telling others how to raise theirs, the sad love story that though the person has moved on and remarried,is trotted out to prove he is worthy of ruling others. They talk about media hype and bias??????
When did we become European wanna-be's? America has done in a little over two hundred years what ir took Europe. 1500 to do and we have pulled their fat out of the fire more than once, now they give us the agenda for our lives--Godless, foodless, and controlled in every aspect, and our President according to your media perspective, is selling us out to stay in control or controlling us to sell us out.
I believe neither, behind every politician is a group of puppet masters, Republican or Democrat, who stroke egos, pave ways and disregard the people of America as unable to think for themselves--that is the attititude of despotic royalty over the centuries. Mr. President let them do their interviews and have their opinions--the truth will always will out.

Whether you are biased right or left (your "right"), you have a moral obligation to be truthful and accurate in your statements and accusations. If you are conservative and watch only Fox News opinionators, or are liberal and watch, well, any other network exclusively, how can you possibly make an informed decision about what is the truth and what is an uninformed opinion?
I try to watch equal amounts of Fox News and MSNBC and what is obvious is that Glen Beck is accuracy deprived and his conclusions are mostly so outlandish as to make it a real chore to watch his antics from beginning to end. O'Reilly is at least reasonably reasonable a good bit of the time. Hannity is not quite as insane as Beck but is so biased for the Republican party as to be too predictable to waste time on. A good bit of Olbermann's show is taken up showing videos that show the contradictions and inaccuracies of charges and statements put out by Beck, Limbaugh, Rove, Cheney and other spokesmen on the right. I don't recall seeing the same refutations of anything Olbermann has said.
Someone said that hardly anyone listens to liberal radio shows or watches liberal TV shows and gave some tally of the large audience Fox News has in comparison. Well, if they are correct in stating that nearly all of the media is liberal, then the total audience for liberal programming far exceeds that of Fox News. I mean, if you are being fed a liberal line from CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS, what's the incentive to tune in MSNBC when O'Reilly is on?
One of the most reliable ways to judge who is reporting truthfully and who is slanting their reporting one way or the other is -- Time. (See what has happened, or will happen, to the "birthers", "death panelists," etc., over time.)
It's also a good indicator of whose philosophy stands up in the long run. My biggest problem with conservatives is that they seem to be ten to twenty years behind the times. Look what has happened during the time since we've had Social Security and Medicare. Very few conservatives will call for doing away with these two programs today, even though they are blatantly "socialistic," and were opposed by conservatives back in the day. I'm sure the same change of opinion will occur after the Obama healthcare reform has been in effect for a few years.
Personally, I watch the three broadcast networks and CNN for the news and Fox News for entertainment.

How dare this White House attempt to violate our freedom of speech? How dare they! Who does this Obama think He is? Deciding whom is allowed to give us news? He is the `decider? How dare he? How dare he attempt to stop the news. I just Love Fox-Because I know I can turn them on at any hour and depend on honest reporting. I cant get that from MSNBC.
But for sure we do not have to stand for a white house that is deciding who can report the news. WHAT ARE THEY HIDING?

I have to disagree with claims that any network, even MSNBC, "swings to the left". There is no such thing as left in America anymore. Those that are currently labeled socialists, liberals, etc. are actually slightly to the right of center by the rest of the world's standards. Part of the confusion of course lies with the absurd notion that Bill Clinton was liberal. He did more in support of the corporate (i.e. right-wing fascist) agenda than Ronald Reagan did. Obama is just more of the same. These days, socialist seems to mean that you don't believe in discrimination based on any type of minority status. Actually socialism is an economic system, not a religious belief.

"What annoys people is that Fox, both their opinion shows and news shows, has the audacity to ask questions."
Show me any Fox show that a conservative host agrees with any Obama policy.

I think the white house lowers themselves by whining about FOX. If they can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
Fox is just as far to the right as MOST of the others are to the left. Isn't it a good thing that people of that persuasion have a channel to watch? This is America after all, where we are supposed to have a free press and freedom of choice.

Why isn't there an option for "hell no and I don't trust any of the other news programs either they are all in it to make money off of sensationalism"?

With every other news outlet biased mostly toward the left, why not have one with a somewhat right leaning? Is the Obama cabinet so afraid of one network that doesn't kiss his feet? So the President will talk to every outspoken enemy of our nation, but not to a "biased" news network. Pretty pathetic.

Fox News is like Comedy Central, E!, Syfy, Bravo: A entertainment network. They have as much journalistic integrity as any of those. No more, no less.

"We should be far more worried that the White House is trying to shut out its critics instead of presenting its ideas in open debate."

THIS.

Pau;

It has absolutely nothing to do with bias. It has everything to do with the White House shutting out people they don't agree with.

Whether you believe Fox is bias and the others aren't, or you believe everyone is bias, or you believe some are more biased then others, or you believe some programs on some of the stations are biased, none of that is the issue here.

The issue is our government is now officially on record, flat out to the public said, it will not talk to anyone who disagree with them.

I ask you is this the kind of government you want for the US? It's not about left or right. Even if you lean left or are far left, there are bound to be issues you don't agree with the White House. But now you can't disagree with them because they will just shut you out. What if say the White House has a policy that upsets the people at CNN or MSNBC? Think about it....they can't speak up because the President would refuse to talk to that network if they do.

Now think about four years from now, or maybe eight years from now...or whenever we get a republican president, which sooner or later we will. They will then turn the tables around and say, since Obama did it to Fox, I can do it to MSNBC and CNN if they disagree with me.

This is what the White House is advocating, the end of debates, the end of challenging the President and his point of views. He maybe smart and our President, but he isn't perfect and he certainly does not have the answer to everything and he is certainly prone to mistakes...as we have seen already a few times (ie. remember when he just jumped on the side of the professor and attacked the police prematurely earlier this year...and he had to retract it and admit he made a mistake...far from perfect).
