'FlashForward', which offers a labyrinthine look at a world where everyone has seen a glimpse of their own future, started the season with strong ratings thanks to a pilot that garnered significant buzz and critical acclaim. Since then, however, the ratings have slipped, losing a quarter of its total viewers and dropping from a 4.1 to a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic in just four episodes.

Despite this drop in numbers, the departure of Guggenheim comes as a bit of a surprise considering ABC recently picked up 'FlashForward' for a full season order, guaranteeing the show will reach the April 29, 2010 date that is critical to the show's mythology. Ain't It Cool News, however, is reporting that the network was unhappy with the quality of storytelling since Guggenheim's addition to the series.

Guggenheim, who previously co-created the short-lived lawyer fandango 'Eli Stone', will return to development work at ABC Studios.
