Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield are moving out of 'Melrose Place.'In an exclusive new interview with the Ausiello Files, executive producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer revealed that Simpson-Wentz and Egglesfield will exit the show after the murder-mystery plot wraps in episode 12. Moving forward, this will make room for a number of changes to be made at the infamous apartment complex.
Among the changes you can expect to see: a slew of new characters, including a carefree, funny and yet-to-be-cast doctor who crosses paths with Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen), according to Slavkin. And with the murder plotline out of the way, the original characters will finally be able to enjoy themselves -- which, based on the original 'Melrose,' probably means they'll be having lots and lots of sex.

As for Heather Locklear's much anticipated arrival, Slavkin confirmed that she will be sticking around for "a long time." In fact, Amanda already has a new love interest on her horizon (shocker), played by 'Once and Again' star Billy Campbell.
Slavkin also mentioned that Simpson-Wentz's exit was always planned, and that Egglesfield's character did not fit in with the show's new tone.
When the 'Melrose Place' reboot premiered in September, we asked AOL TV readers for their input. 55 percent said it was just OK; only 18 percent said they were addicted.
Meanwhile, 44 percent of our readers said that Simpson-Wentz's acting was the worst (worst!) part of the show. Which leads us to ask: With Simpson-Wentz exiting the show, will you still watch? Or is the worst thing to happen to 'Melrose' in a long time? Vote now in our poll.
