Cameron Mathison would be perfect for Good Morning, America

by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 22nd 2009 9:02AM
cameron_mathisonWith Diane Sawyer moving from Good Morning, America to World News Tonight, ABC is reportedly hunting around for just the right person to become the new GMA host. The names bandied about include George Stephanopoulos, Bill Weir, Chris Cuomo, David Muir and Cameron Mathison. I am telling you right now, Cameron Mathison would be perfect for Good Morning, America.

While the other men mentioned are all involved in news, Cameron is on All My Children. He's an actor. But he's also an attractive performer and an ABC talent on the rise. He was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, and even though he didn't win, he won over a lot of non-soap viewers who'd never seen him before.

Cameron also hosted a game show on TLC, Your Place or Mine? and a reality show on SoapNet, I Wanna Be a Soap Star. With his easy charm, good looks and affable personality, he would be just the right morning host presence.

You know who'd he be like? Today's Matt Lauer. Easy on the eyes and easy to relate to. ABC would do well to try him on the show on a temporary basis, see how he does.

Cameron would also be wise to look for a soft landing place if the predictions of the end of soaps is true. Yes, he has agreed to make the move to Los Angeles when AMC moves west at the end of 2009, and he is an integral character -- Ryan Lavery -- on the soap. But if Cameron projects where he might want to be in the future, GMA would be a fine spot. AMC might not be on the air in five years, but GMA will be.

It looks like Cameron would be a good fit since he has not only acting chops (a presadent set by david hartman
although he started as anewes man here in north carolina on what is now the local affiliate) but has also done other types of programming. but if they are going to upset the testosterone-estrogen balance Cumo and
Stefenopolus already have news AND GMA experiance. Why not try to find a strong female anchor instead .
while Roberts is a good human interest reporter and is a
great one-on-one interviewer and issues oriented reporter; Diane is more of the "hard hitting " newsperson . the one who can go and interview people that Roberts would be uncomfortable with .

Mediabistro dot com hinted of the fact that George Stephanopolous might be the replacement. Bad choice! No personality. Yesterday he interviewed Glenn Close and her sister and it was like he was talking to the chair. At the end of the interview he simply said "thank you." Robin, on the other hand, thanks the guest and wishes them a good day. George needs to stick to politics. Cameron would be a good choice.

Oh, gosh, let's have another liberal twit anchorperson on an ABC news show.

Geeeee, America can't get enough of liberal twits, which is why all the other news organizations are bleeding viewers to Fox.

And you divine his political leanings from his acting? His dancing? His hosting?

Wow. You're good. You're very good.
