White Sox' Ozzie Guillen joins Fox for World Series

Ozzie_Guillen_SoxThe World Series is just around the corner and Fox has done something to make the coverage a bit more interesting. No, they have dictated that the umpires be replaced with androids, although after the screw-ups from Game Four of the ALCS, that might not be a bad suggestion. Fox Sports has added White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen to the pre and post-game analysis.

Aside from being a World Series winner, Ozzie is a character. He's funny, audacious, occasionally inappropriate, but highly knowledgeable about baseball and entertaining. He won't hold back what he thinks and if you want to hear real inside baseball talk, that's what Ozzie will deliver.

He's gotten in trouble, in fact, for being politically incorrect. Fox has hopefully taken that into account and are prepared to cover any fines that might occur if Ozzie goes at it with Mark Grace or Eric Karros, the other Fox analysts.

To me, Ozzie is a breath of fresh air. I hope he tells it like it is. I hope he's a straight shooter like Charles Barkley is on TBS NBA game analysis. Like Joel pointed out recently, the baseball coverage hasn't been terrific. I'm not saying that Ozzie is all that Fox needs to perk things up, but he'll help.

Ozzie will begin his stint with Fox on October 25, the first game of the World Series. He's also going to be online blogging about the series, and be a part of the Fox Sports En Español World Series coverage.

As a Chicagoan, I get to hear all of Ozzie's gems. Gems being defined as the lunatic rantings of a semi-lucid mind. He certainly will make things interesting, but I doubt for the better.
