Happy 7000th episode, Price is Right

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 4th 2009 2:31PM
I'm not sure if it seems like it should be more episodes or less, but The Price is Right has been going strong since 1972 and they're going to be celebrating their 7000th episode on November 5. I guess that seems right, it's just that when a show is on for 37 years you lose all track of the number of episodes.

Here's a behind the scenes look at tomorrow's show.

THAT IS SO WRONG!!! THE PRICE IS RIGHT WAS ON IN THE LATE 1950'S HOSTED BY BILL CULLEN. BOB BARKER WAS THE HOST STARTING IN 1972 (AFTER TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES WENT OFF THE AIR).

I was waiting for someone to mention this. The Price is Right is one of the very first game shows I remember from the mid 1950's. I'm not sure if it went off the air and came back in 1972 (that may be what they mean) but it was certainely on in the 1950's.

The '50's version of TPIR was a totally different concept. It was the same 4 contestants for the entire show, it was "repeat" bidding, and they could "freeze" their bidding. I'd say the '70's version is about 90% different.
