Real Housewives of New Jersey to guest on Mercy

mercy_duo_nbcThe other day I wrote about watching Mercy during a mini-marathon that aired last Saturday on Bravo. Is it possible that someone at NBC Universal was reading my plaudits for the company using Bravo to promote an NBC drama series? I think so, because today comes to the news that two of the Real Housewives of New Jersey will guest on Mercy.

That's right; you didn't read it wrong. Teresa Giudice and Jacqueline Laurita, the two who were having babies in season one of the show, will appear as themselves on the NBC medical drama, according to the Ausiello Files.

According to his sources, Teresa and Jacqueline are in a New Jersey bar when they have an encounter with Mercy Hospital nurse Chloe. Apparently, they don't all share a booth and order some calamari. It's a bit more contentious.

On the face of it, I love this idea. Why not draw in some Bravo viewers to NBC with a stunt like this? It may work, it may not, but what do you have to lose? My only quibble is that I would have rather seen Teresa and Jacqueline rushing into the ER with one of their kids needing stitches or something! That could have been great, especially if Teresa was inclined to flip a gurney if she didn't get the kind of service she expected.

Well, there are tables in the bar, so Teresa could get her flip on there. The guest spot will appear later this year.

By the way, Mercy has a real "thing" about New Jersey. Unlike House, which is also set in the Garden State, the people on Mercy hate New Jersey (not that they love it on House). James Tupper's character especially disses Jersey. He's not happy to be there and feels like he's in the worst place on earth.

To be honest, I lived in New Jersey for about ten years on and off. It's not a garden state, but -- truth be told -- it's really pretty nice.
