V showrunner has already been replaced

by Brad Trechak, posted Nov 4th 2009 10:28AM
VDespite only having one episode broadcast (the official TV Squad review is here) and four episodes in the can, V is already changing showrunners. They are trading one Scott for another. Rather than Scott Peters, the new guy calling the shots will be Scott Rosenbaum of Chuck and The Shield fame.

The switch is not a good sign. On the other hand, I watched the pilot and was underwhelmed. Among other problems, things moved too fast. Also, why do people cheer when aliens land on Earth and give a PSA? Wouldn't they more likely be running for their lives? The pilot would have worked better as a two-hour premiere. However, I enjoy Chuck and hear that The Shield was good. Any talent from either show going could only benefit V. Hopefully I won't be proven wrong.

Will V become more Chuck-like and add humor? Could a concept like that work? An alien invasion comedy?

From what I understand is that V is being percieved as "anti-Obama". The aliens represent big goverment here to to take care of you, But at the cost of your liberty.

Supposedly that is why the showrunner was replaced, for allowing this to happen.

Me, I don't see it but people see what they want. Just something new for conspiracy therorist to chew on.

Well, I was expecting some hopeful comments on this show, as I watched it late, and ended up having nightmares because of it. I guess that means its pretty damned good. I like the fact I don't really recognize anyone except for the FBI lizard, wasn't he in The Sandlot? Its still campy, fun, and intense like the original. I recently watched the V marathon on SyFy, and that was like watching Wonder Woman and Shazam when I was a kid all over again. This new version really makes you wonder if your neighbor is really who he says he is.

I couldn't help but think of all the people that would have broken out their guns and started shooting at the aliens as soon as they popped up...including the military....

I liked that it moved fast, especially since I saw the original and other similar movies (Independence Day) so we knew what was coming.

Plus it had two Firefly cast members, which can never hurt.

How can you have a job covering television and never see The Shield?

I too was not too impressed with V. It reminded me too much of Jericho.

"The switch is not a good sign."

"Any talent from either show going could only benefit V."

These two sentences would seem to be antithetical. I'm just saying. Everyone has been quick to play up Rosenbaum's work on Chuck, but the Shield is anything but a comedy.

Personally, I was really underwhelmed by the pilot. Beyond the scenes that were in the overplayed promos, I didn't think it had a lot to offer. But that's less a problem of acting than writing and pacing. If Rosenbaum taking over can right that ship, it will be all to the good.
