The 'Extra' TV host formerly known as Slater on 'Saved by the Bell' will be master of ceremonies at the live Miss America pageant on Jan. 30. Lopez is no stranger to the competition, having hosted in 2007 and 2009. (And perhaps his experience on 'Dancing With the Stars' will help his commentary on the talent competition?)

Held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, the pageant pits 53 contestants against each other as they compete in interview, swimsuit, evening wear, and talent competitions for the crown. Past hosts include James Denton from 'Desperate Housewives' and comedian Wayne Brady.Mario LopezFrom AC to emcee!

The current Miss America, Katie Stam, hails from Indiana. Contestants competing for her crown include Miss Virgin Islands, Miss District of Columbia, and Miss Puerto Rico -- for the first time in 50 years.

Hopefully the return of Puerto Rico and Lopez means the pageant will reach a wider audience, as TLC could certainly use a boost to counter the show's declining ratings. In January of this year 3.5 million viewers tuned in to the pageant on TLC, compared to 9.8 million in 2004, when Miss America aired on ABC.

Will you still be tuning in?
