CW's 'Life UneXpected' to Premiere January 18

by Laura Prudom, posted Nov 10th 2009 5:45PM
The CW's mid-season drama, 'Life UneXpected,' will debut on Monday, Jan. 18 as a temporary replacement for 'Gossip Girl,' in an effort to combat the ratings slump 'GG' suffers during its cycle of post-sweeps repeats.

According to The Futon Critic, the freshman series will moonlight for 'Gossip Girl' for a number of episodes before moving to the 8 PM ET Monday slot, currently occupied by 'One Tree Hill,' to complete its run in the spring.

The series, created by 'Brothers and Sisters' producer Liz Tigelaar, focuses on 15-year-old Lux (Britt Robertson), an emancipated minor who has spent her childhood being bounced between foster homes before deciding to seek out her biological parents (played by 'Roswell' star Shiri Appleby and Kristoffer Polaha of 'Mad Men' fame). 'Dawson's Creek' alum Kerr Smith also stars, and the series is produced by 'Gilmore Girls' consulting producer Janet Leahy.

Early reports indicate that 'Life' may succeed where other CW shows have failed in recapturing the glory days of the WB's drama line-up, when Lorelai and Dawson were the ratings heavy hitters.

EW
enthuses that the pilot is "completely charming," while The TV Addict insists the show is "a lock for a slot on our 'can't miss' list," if it can keep up the momentum of the pilot. We'll find out if 'The Vampire Diaries' has competition as the CW's ratings winner come Jan. 18.
