Christine Baranski Returning to 'The Big Bang Theory'

Christine Baranski and Kaley CuocoLaurie Metcalf made a return appearance earlier this season on 'The Big Bang Theroy' as Sheldon's mother. So, it's only fitting that Leonard's mother will be returning to the show as well.

The Ausiello Files
is reporting that Christine Baranski has agreed to bring back her Emmy-nominated role as Leonard's uptight mother, Dr. Beverly Hofstadter. Luckily, Baranski's regular gig on 'The Good Wife' is a fellow CBS series, so it wasn't a challenge to fit her 'Big Bang' guest spot into her schedule.

The first time she appeared, there was some delightfully awkward tension between her and Sheldon. Some would argue and call it sexual tension, but we're not sure that Sheldon is even a sexual creature. With his own mother (Metcalfe) so decidedly non-intellectual, we think he was just thrilled to have a mother-figure he could mentally spar with.Christine Baranski and Kaley CuocoLaurie Metcalf made a return appearance earlier this season on 'The Big Bang Theroy' as Sheldon's mother. Science is Sheldon's true love, and he's pretty consistently shown that he finds love and relationships to be an irritant and a distraction from his work in theoretical physics. He certainly has very little patience for Leonard and Penny's relationship journey, and he abhors any sort of conflict, despite his penchant for causing it.

But, he's also never before encountered someone quite as intellectually stimulating as Leonard's mother. Perhaps the attraction he feels toward her mind could cause him to fall victim to his baser instinct, if he has them. Even if it doesn't, the tension hanging in the air should be enough to net plenty of laughs. Certainly Leonard will be made uncomfortable.

Speaking of laughs, we're also very intrigued to see how Leonard's mother will react to his relationship with Penny, someone we're pretty sure she will think is beneath him. After all, the mind is the most important thing (never mind that Leonard likes Penny and she's smoking hot).

Considering that Mom has the same social graces and skills that Sheldon has, we're sure she'll tell Penny directly just what she thinks of her. The question is, will Leonard stand up to his mother and defend his girlfriend? Or will he have to pull her away from Sheldon first?
