Lou Dobbs quits CNN

If you thought CNN's ratings could not sink any lower, here comes a gaping hole in the ocean floor.

CNN's one man Minuteman force, Lou Dobbs, announced he's leaving CNN as of tonight. He's stepping away from his contract with the news network two years early and leaving television...for now.

He hasn't announced if he's leaving for another network or even another job in or outside of television, even though he was seen getting cozy with Fox's Roger Ailes two months ago. But neither Dobbs nor the network have confirmed if he's going to be hired by the Fox News Channel. Translation? He's going to be hired by the Fox News Channel.

Dobbs said he's leaving television because some figureheads in the media and politics have been urging him to "engage in constructive problem solving" outside of the realm of television. Does that mean he's going to single-handedly stop the flow of illegal immigrants himself? Look out Laredo, Texas, you're about to get a visit from Hurricane Lou!

This also means that today's episode of Lou Dobbs Tonight will be his last. So if you tune in tomorrow and don't see your favorite media talking head taking on the establishment and you're reduced to uncontrollable tears that cause you to hyperventilate, please seek professional help from a mental health expert immediately.

I'm most sorry that it'll mean an end to Keith Olbermann's hysterically funny impression of Dobbs, which is sort of like Marvin the Martian with a hernia. Wait--Dobbs is keeping the radio show? Excellent! Plus it's just a matter of time before he's pontificating on Fixed News.

Good riddance. Dobbs is the sort of faux journalist that seems to be perpetuating all over cable "news" outlets. It's sad that news has turned to sensationalism, semantics, and infotainment and Dobbs' anti-immigrant rants were a part of that category. If they were all gone, I'm sure he'd rant that his fruit and veggies are horribly overpriced and his lawn isn't mowed correctly.

I'm glad CNN's ratings are in the tank. Maybe they'll learn to be a, I don't know, REAL news channel. That's what would differentiate them from MSNBC and Fox who hire personalities who love to hear themselves talk over legitimate journalists who report the news and intimately know the news. Unless it involves David, Jerry, Tina, and Chris, I don't want anymore talking heads on TV.

He's such a hack that Faux News is the only place he belongs - in the company of other moron hacks like O'Reilly, Beck, Hannity, etc.

Good Riddance.

On another note, I feel bad for CNN, as there's just no market for honest, straightforward non-slanted news these days.

It seems extremely sudden, middle of the week, announced the same day? I'm thinking he either quit in a huff or was 'encouraged' to leave.

Chances are that he won't go anywhere until the time of his contract is up, whether he quits or not. Probably a no compete clause in there somewhere. So either he sits on the sidelines for 2 years, or FOX gives CNN a crapload of money.

Meh - don't care. I miss John Stossel over on 20/20 - didn't always agree with him but he did make me rethink a few issues.
