In an episode we'd call 'Chuck Versus the Season Premiere Date,' we still don't know when the third season of NBC's spy guy dramedy 'Chuck' will actually hit primetime.

But in an installment we'd title 'Chuck Versus the Awesome Guest Stars,' we do have another name to add to the already impressive list of celebs who've peppered the show since it debuted in 2007: EW.com reports that 'The X-Files' and 'Terminator 2' star Robert Patrick will pop up in a mid-season 3 episode called 'Chuck Versus the Tic Tac,' playing Col. Keller, a "mysterious figure" from John Casey's (Adam Baldwin) past.

Patrick becomes the latest geek pop culture icon to hang with the 'Chuck' gang. Other guests have included:

'Quantum Leap' star Scott Bakula has as Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Ellie's (Sarah Lancaster) long-lost papa
'Fletch' star Chevy Chase as Bartowski family nemesis Roark last season
'Office Space' star Gary Cole as Sarah's (Yvonne Strahovski) dad
'Babylon 5' star Bruce Boxleitner as Woody Woodcomb, a.k.a. the awesome doctor daddy of Ryan McPartlin's Devin/Captain Awesome
Morgan Fairchild, the woman who never seems to age (and who also played Chandler's mom on 'Friends'), as Awesome's mom, Honey

'Battlestar Galactica's' Tricia Helfer, 'Night Court' and 'The Practice' Emmy winner John Larroquette, 'The O.C.'s' Rachel Bilson and 'Lost'/'Lord of the Rings'/'Flash Forward' star Dominic Monaghan have also made guest appearances on the Josh Schwartz/Chris Fedak-created series.

As for Patrick, who's also made guest appearances on shows like 'NCIS,' 'Lost,' 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' and, most memorably, as Davy Scatino, the gambling addict Tony bankrupted on 'The Sopranos,' the 'Chuck' gig comes after a recent regular stint on 'The Unit' and a role in George Clooney's current big-screen comedy 'The Men Who Stare at Goats.'

Meanwhile, back at the Buy More -- though NBC hasn't confirmed anything -- rumors persist that 'Chuck' could hit the air as soon as January, in light of NBC's effective cancellation of fall 2009 medical drama 'Trauma.' After a spirited save-the-show campaign staged by fans last spring, it was believed that 'Chuck' wasn't likely to return with new episodes until March, on NBC's post-Olympics schedule.

Aside from the guest spot by Patrick, what do we know about the show's third season?

- Thanks to the Intersect, reluctant spy Chuck now has a head full of world spy secrets and the ability to fend off his most dangerous foes, though producers have hinted that much humor will come from the fact that Chuck can't always control his new martial arts skills.

- Other season 3 guest stars, so far, will include 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' star Vinnie Jones, 'Superman Returns' Man of Steel Brandon Routh, former 'Law & Order' star Angie Harmon (whose character is a fellow spy who wants to kill Captain Awesome), 'Smallville's Kristin Kreuk, wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin and 'Private Benjamin' star Armand Assante as a South American dictator Casey once tried to assassinate.

- NBC has pushed its original 13-episode order to 19, which is another bit of evidence that the show may premiere in January, instead of next spring.

- Strahovski tells AOL TV's Show Girl that, contrary to rumors, her Sarah won't be working at a Subway store this season, but will still be slinging froyo as her spy chick cover job.

- Strahovski also hints that love triangles won't be the only roadblock for Sarah/Chuck happiness this season. With the new Intersect in his head, Chuck apparently sets out to finally embrace spy life, which worries Sarah, who fell for him because of his normal, non-spy guy ways.

- McPartlin has confirmed that Awesome will take part in a few spy missions, that Ellie will continue to be clueless about what her brother, and now her hubby, are really up to and that Jeffster! will return.

- Budget cuts are rumored to have hit the show and will reportedly mean a little less time on the Buy More set, but the retailers will still be a big part of 'Chuck,' and 'Drew Carey Show' star Diedrich Bader will be guest starring as someone who may or may not be a Buy More exec. Meanwhile, the incredible Tony Hale returns as nasty Buy More manager Emmett Millbarge, and another rumor suggests that Chuck will now be working at a different electronics store.

- And potentially the most fun new development of the new season: the pairing of Chuck and his BFF Morgan (Joshua Gomez) as roommates.
