Underground Toys materializes TV sci-fi swag for the holidays

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Nov 11th 2009 10:03AM
The radio controlled Davros toy is out to conquer Christmas.Do Daleks wear jingle bells? Probably not. But the creator of Doctor Who's deadliest enemies is in stateside toy stores to celebrate the holiday season with the human species he's tried to kill off more than once.

His arrival is very timely when you consider it's November and time for pundits like me to start sending some gift ideas your way.

Since I'm more than comfortable shilling for the geek contingent, the good folks at Underground Toys sent the evil scientist (right) over for a visit. Though he's a bit of a grump -- the 12" high, radio controlled Davros should keep any Who fan entertained. The only question I have is whether he'll end up in the fans of kids or their sci-fi fan parents.

If you're more of a Star Wars: The Clone Wars fan (though I don't see why such competition is necessary), you might want to decorate your computer desk with the Lightsaber USB Lamp. To be honest, it's small and not intensely bright. With the lights out, you really couldn't read by it. But who care? It's a lightsaber lamp. You buy it so you can avoid doing your work or paying your bills while you wave it around and make "whooshing" noises.

Finally, if you're looking for just a simple stocking stuffer, you can snag a Clone Wars Cellphone Spinner Charm. There's nothing fancy here. They come in a selection of Star Wars Characters, and you hang them from your phone. When you send or receive a signal, the character's head lights up and spins -- telling the world that you have a call (and that you're a huge nerd). Yes, I have one on my iPhone. So?

Keep on eye on TV Squad for more non-essential, yet utterly desirable TV fan gift ideas in the days and weeks to come.
