Jason Lee Joins TNT's 'Delta Blues,' Earns Major Karma Points

Good news for fans still mourning the demise of actor Jason Lee's NBC comedy series 'My Name is Earl': The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Lee will headline 'Delta Blues,' a new TNT pilot executive produced by George Clooney.

Lee will star as Dwight Hendricks, a Memphis police officer who lives with his mother and lives a second life as an Elvis impersonator. Clark Johnson ('The Shield,' 'The Wire') will direct the pilot, written by Liz M. Besides his acclaimed role as Earl Hickey on 'My Name is Earl,' Lee is best known for his collaborations with close friend Kevin Smith, appearing in the writer-director's 'Mallrats,' 'Chasing Amy,' 'Dogma,' 'Jay and SIlent Bob Strike Back,' 'Jersey Girl,' 'Clerks II' and the upcoming 'A Couple of Dicks.' Other credits include collaborations with Cameron Crowe ('Almost Famous'; 'Vanilla Sky'), as well as the films 'Dreamcatcher' and 'The Incredibles.'

In the meantime, Lee will direct and star in a live-action pilot for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, set in the world of skateboarding. He's also set to direct the indie comedy 'Get Back,' which chronicles the time-traveling misadventures of two music-obsessed friends.

Later this year, Lee will reprise the role of Dave Seville in the upcoming 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.'
