Family Matters meets The Young and the Restless ... casting wise

eddie_winslow_headshotIt's taken a while, but The Young and the Restless has finally filled a role that's been vacant for too long. No, David Hasselhoff is not coming back as Snapper Foster. The role of Malcolm Winters is returning and Darius McCrary's got the Y&R role. Malcolm, the dynamic younger brother of Neil Winters, has been missing in action for a while because the previous actor in the part, Shemar Moore, has become a star in primetime.

The Winters family is an important element in the Y&R canvas and they've missed Malcolm. Shemar was asked to come back, but with his success on Criminal Minds, there simply wasn't time in his schedule for both shows. Truth be told, there probably wasn't enough money to compel him to work that hard. So,while the fans might have liked Shemar back, they'll have to get used to a new face instead.

Fortunately, it's a familiar face. Darius McCrary grew up on television. He was Eddie Winslow on Family Matters. That was back when ABC had a Friday night lineup of popular sitcoms called "Thank God It's Friday," remember?

The new Mal will show up in December, probably just in time for the holidays. He'll find that Lily has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy and Neil is up to his neck in corporate intrigue, and knowing how the show is written, Malcolm will be coming back with a bombshell or two of his own to drop.

DARIUS MCCRARY IS NO MALCOLM. PLEASE RETHINK THIS RECAST. THIS IS AAN AFFRONT TO THE WORK THAT SHEMAR MOORE DID AS MALCOLM. PLEASE, PLEASE FIND SOMEONE ELSE.

I haven't watched Y&R in a long time but remember Malcolm's character well. Wishing the new actor success in his role. I started watching Criminal Minds because of Shemar Moore, and he's great in that role too. When I first started watching, it was almost like Malcolm grew up and became an FBI agent.

Interesting casting....since Malcolm is Neil's brother and Neil is Devon's adoptive father, Malcolm is Devon's uncle.
Darius McCrary and the young actor playing Devon, Bryton McClure, used to play cousins on "Family Matters"

Yes, Tracy, Malcom is Lily's biological father, and most everyone knows, including Neal. I bet you are right that something will come out again, where Lily might need something from a biological relative. They could bring back Dru too while they are at it. They need more characters on the show---too many times they need to switch husbands/wives since there aren't more characters. Wait !!! Characters, these people are real :)

If Malcolm is back, I just wonder how long it will be before Phyllis gets sick of Nick and his Sharon obcession, and goes looking for love in Malcolm's sexy arms again, as she did when Shemar Moore played the role. As far as bring back Drucilla, her body was never found, but what possible excuse could they give for her staying away from her long time love Neil? Brain damage? Good luck, I think she was suffering from that long before she went over the falls...........

I will not be watching Y & R if they run the portrayer of Victor Newman off. I know many more that won't be interested either... Sorry but you have lost a long time fan if he goes.

I think that's smart. Shemarr Moore has been in and out of primetime shows, during his Y &R stint, so viewers have probably adjusted to an actor with a name. Plus, considering Family Matter's young sister turned to porn, I'm glad to see one of the other child actors on the show & ABC's TGIF lineup, not follow the Sasha Mitchell/Stephanie Tanner/Jamie Foxxworth route, but actually continue on the acting path.

Hey, if I remember right, wasn't Malcolm actually the real father of Lily, since he had an affair with Drucilla...Maybe the truth will come out when he comes back, maybe Lily will need bone marrow or something like that from her parent and Neil will find out it is not him..or does he already know that..I didn't watch for a few years
