Review: The Vampire Diaries - The Turning Point

The Vampire Diaries: The Turning Point
(S01E10) "Too bad I live alone. I'm at the Ramada watching pay-per-view all day eating everything in sight, including the housekeeping." - Logan, since there's no one at his home to invite him in

As you can see, I'm a little crazy for Paul Wesley and all those muscles, so there ya go. Here's another one, in case you missed last week's episode, "History Repeating." He shows more and more skin with each episode.

We got lots more action and intrigue in this episode, involving Logan, the Sheriff, Caroline and of course, Elena, Damon and Stefan. And they certainly couldn't let the vampires-in-the-church storyline just drop, could they? Of course not. More after the jump.

So, now we know for sure that Logan is a vampire (good thing Jenna didn't invite him in), but Damon claims it wasn't him who turned him. Somehow, that whole exchange with the mayor trying to goad Jeremy and Tyler into fighting is making me gitchy. Was the mayor involved in the Logan incident? And why is the mayor so darn weird?

And then things calmed down and Jeremy tried to extend an olive branch to Tyler, who hauled off and slugged him. "What is your problem, man?" says Jeremy. It's like Tyler is under some weird spell or something.

But Logan's one mean vampire, isn't he? That scene where he kept shooting Damon was both funny and mean. Funny, in that Damon is usually the mean one, so the tables were turned. Logan sort of took over for Damon in the Mean Vampire Department.

But let's jump to my favorite scene: Elena and Stefan finally getting together. "No, you don't get to make that decision for me," says Elena. "If you walk away, it's for you, because I know what I want. Stefan, I love you." And of course, he goes back and kisses her, they stumble into the house, yada yada yada. That was a nice scene, especially when his vampireness started showing and she kissed him anyway.

With all the weirdness in Elena's life lately, it seems a little odd that she'd freak out over seeing the picture of Katherine in Stefan's room. I mean, wouldn't you want to know what it was about, rather than just running off? I would. Maybe it's because Stefan said this room is "the only place that's remained constant ... this room holds every memory that I thought was important enough to hang onto." And then there's the picture of Katherine.

And Lord knows what Elena's gotten herself into now, with the crashed car and the mysterious figure who put his limbs back into place after being run down and then approached her in the turned-over car. Hmmm ... Logan's body was found by the Sheriff, but that doesn't mean anything. It could still be him. Or maybe Damon.

There's still something fishy about Alaric Saltzman, the new teacher. He definitely knows more than he's saying, especially after tracking down Logan and staking him.

Some other stuff:

- It'll be interesting to learn more about what's in the books by the founding fathers.

- Caroline and Matt make a cute couple. Boy, she almost bought it, though. Thanks to Damon and Stefan for saving her butt. I got a kick out of seeing the Salvatore brothers working on the same side for once.

- Stefan wanted to be a doctor, but couldn't because of the blood. That Dr. Carlisle Cullen must be one strong vampire.

- "Payback's a bitch, isn't it?" - Damon, after shooting Logan.

- "You think you're the only one who wants to get in that tomb? Under that church? There's another way to break the spell." - Logan to Damon

Music featured in this episode:

I haven't read the books but think Tyler and his father might be werewolves (or turning into werewolves at least). Thinking about the words that were used and then the shot of the full moon as Tyler walked away I think the show is hinting that there is another supernatural being to explore. First when Alaric called the dad an "alpha male douche" that could be a clue because 'alpha male' is a phrase used with dogs and especially wolves. Then Tyler seemed to be overly aggressive and hot-headed and he didn't even know why. Perhaps he is transitioning into werewolfism for the first time.

I won't ruin anything if you haven't read the books yet (which you should because I think they are a great read, dare I say better than twilight, well the writing at least). The shot of the moon behind tyler was a clue, if they follow the books, as to what is going to come for him.
I really want to know who turned logan and who was in the street that elena hit!! I thought maybe it was katherine at first, but the person in the road seemed like a man to me when he was walking towards elena.
When is the next episode!?

even though i knew Alaric was a vampire slayer going into the episode, i do have doubt whether he himself is a vampire or just a slayer wearing the ring as some kind of trophy, or perhaps a family heirloom.
the weirdest part of the episode was definitely Tyler's father wanting Tyler to fight with Jeremy. was that scene only to show why Tyler is such a bully? i never read the books, so i might be reading too much into things, but did anyone notice the shot of the full moon right after the scene where Matt and Tyler were leaving?
it's scary how people are just randomly dying and missing from Mystic Falls, and the townies haven't been asking more questions or even seem to notice their loved ones missing! there was a huge pile of bodies eaten by hungry Logan!

I was confused when Logan was talking to the sheriff and said something along the lines of "I died for you and this town, and you swept me under the rug, you've known me since I was 6." and he said something about her burying him or knowing who did. I am dying to know who turned him, after last episode, history repeating I think, I was sure Alaric Saltzman was a vampire and turned Logan when I saw him at the end but then he staked him this episode?? In the last episode it showed a ring he was wearing that looked like the 1 Stefan and Damon wear but I'm thinking now he might be something else. Which leads me to also speculate that Elena hit him at the end and he doesn't die either, whatever he is??? I loved the romance/ "sex" scene between Elena and Stefan! I thought Paul was super cute on Army Wives as Logan who dated General Holden's daughter, Emalynn. Much sexier as a vampire but he is yummy yummy in both shows! I can't believe it won't be on till January now, 2 months pretty much! And no true blood till June! I'll see New Moon tomorrow then have to wait for 1 of the 3 vampire shows & movies I love to be on or come out, what will I do???
