Review: The Vampire Diaries - The Turning Point

(S01E10) "Too bad I live alone. I'm at the Ramada watching pay-per-view all day eating everything in sight, including the housekeeping." - Logan, since there's no one at his home to invite him in
As you can see, I'm a little crazy for Paul Wesley and all those muscles, so there ya go. Here's another one, in case you missed last week's episode, "History Repeating." He shows more and more skin with each episode.
We got lots more action and intrigue in this episode, involving Logan, the Sheriff, Caroline and of course, Elena, Damon and Stefan. And they certainly couldn't let the vampires-in-the-church storyline just drop, could they? Of course not. More after the jump.
So, now we know for sure that Logan is a vampire (good thing Jenna didn't invite him in), but Damon claims it wasn't him who turned him. Somehow, that whole exchange with the mayor trying to goad Jeremy and Tyler into fighting is making me gitchy. Was the mayor involved in the Logan incident? And why is the mayor so darn weird?
And then things calmed down and Jeremy tried to extend an olive branch to Tyler, who hauled off and slugged him. "What is your problem, man?" says Jeremy. It's like Tyler is under some weird spell or something.
But Logan's one mean vampire, isn't he? That scene where he kept shooting Damon was both funny and mean. Funny, in that Damon is usually the mean one, so the tables were turned. Logan sort of took over for Damon in the Mean Vampire Department.
But let's jump to my favorite scene: Elena and Stefan finally getting together. "No, you don't get to make that decision for me," says Elena. "If you walk away, it's for you, because I know what I want. Stefan, I love you." And of course, he goes back and kisses her, they stumble into the house, yada yada yada. That was a nice scene, especially when his vampireness started showing and she kissed him anyway.
With all the weirdness in Elena's life lately, it seems a little odd that she'd freak out over seeing the picture of Katherine in Stefan's room. I mean, wouldn't you want to know what it was about, rather than just running off? I would. Maybe it's because Stefan said this room is "the only place that's remained constant ... this room holds every memory that I thought was important enough to hang onto." And then there's the picture of Katherine.
And Lord knows what Elena's gotten herself into now, with the crashed car and the mysterious figure who put his limbs back into place after being run down and then approached her in the turned-over car. Hmmm ... Logan's body was found by the Sheriff, but that doesn't mean anything. It could still be him. Or maybe Damon.
There's still something fishy about Alaric Saltzman, the new teacher. He definitely knows more than he's saying, especially after tracking down Logan and staking him.
Some other stuff:
- It'll be interesting to learn more about what's in the books by the founding fathers.
- Caroline and Matt make a cute couple. Boy, she almost bought it, though. Thanks to Damon and Stefan for saving her butt. I got a kick out of seeing the Salvatore brothers working on the same side for once.
- Stefan wanted to be a doctor, but couldn't because of the blood. That Dr. Carlisle Cullen must be one strong vampire.
- "Payback's a bitch, isn't it?" - Damon, after shooting Logan.
- "You think you're the only one who wants to get in that tomb? Under that church? There's another way to break the spell." - Logan to Damon
