Remember the short-lived series 'Don't Forget the Lyrics'? How about 'The Singing Bee,' hosted by 'N Sync alum Joey Fatone?

Well, here comes one even shorter: According to PEOPLE, Nick Lachey will host the NBC series 'The Sing Off,' a four-night event in which eight groups of people will compete using only their voices.

Well, here comes one even shorter: According to PEOPLE, Nick Lachey will host the NBC series 'The Sing Off,' a four-night event in which eight groups of people will compete using only their voices.

"It's just them naked on stage," Nick Lachey said of his new gig.

Although we remember that 98 Degrees spent much of their stage time shirtless, no strip teases will be involved -- we think. "Naked" refers to the fact that contestants will have zero musical accompaniment as they tackle each song.

At stake is a recording contract with Epic Records/Sony.

"There is nowhere to hide when you're doing an a cappella song," says Lachey. "There's no band behind you and dubbing. It's just you. What they have done to prepare is what will show through in that moment."

Lachey's previous hosting duties include 'Making the Video,' 'High School Musical: Get in the Picture,' and a 'Saturday Night Live' episode in 2004, with then-wife Jessica Simpson. Neither he nor Simpson have managed to reclaim the pop-culture heights of their MTV reality show 'Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,' which aired from 2003 to 2005. His most recent, album, 'What's Left of Me,' came out in 2006, so we'd say he's due for a comeback.
