Mother Watch 2009 continues: the CBS Twitter feed confirmed that '2012' actress Amanda Peet is scheduled to appear on an upcoming episode of 'How I Met Your Mother.' The L.A. Times reports that Peet's episode will air in January, but her role hasn't been revealed yet.

As previously reported, Rachel Bilson is also slated for a guest spot on a January episode, but before that, Joanna Garcia will appear on the December 7 episode as a former college buddy of Ted's. Peet isn't necessarily known for her comedic roles – or appearing much on television for that matter, but has recently done both as a guest spot on Comedy Central's 'Important Things With Demetri Martin.' Her last major television stint was in 2006, she played Jordan McDeere on the short lived Aaron Sorkin drama, 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.''Mother' Watch 2009 continues: The CBS Twitter feed has confirmed that '2012' actress Amanda Peet is scheduled to appear on an upcoming episode of 'How I Met Your Mother.'

As we previously reported, Rachel Bilson is also slated for a guest spot on a January episode. Even before that, 'Privileged' star Joanna Garcia will appear on the December 7 episode as a former college buddy of Ted's (gives new meaning to 'Better Off Ted').

Although she's better known for her work on the big screen, Peet has made a couple of recent appearances on television, including a guest spot on Comedy Central's 'Important Things With Demetri Martin.' Her last major television stint was in 2006, when she played Jordan McDeere on the short-lived Aaron Sorkin drama, 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.'

Over the years, 'How I Met Your Mother' has constantly used guest stars as a way to drive viewers to the show -- most infamously by booking Britney Spears as a ditzy secretary. For the most part, though, guest stars have been well-placed and can be logically worked in, because, you know, we're still waiting to find out who the mother is.

If we were betting whether Peet will actually turn out to be the mother, we'd have to put all our chips in the "no" pile," as this mystery will likely take us through the next couple of seasons. Sigh.
