Kevin Pollak to Host Fox's 'Our Little Genius'

Kevin PollakSome of the rogues in the 1995 film classic 'The Usual Suspects' have made their way to TV recently. Kevin Spacey and Gabriel Byrne have put in time at HBO (on 'Recount' and 'In Treatment,' respectively). Stephen Baldwin has become a reality staple on such shows as 'Celebrity Apprentice' and 'I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here' (we get it, Stephen, you're a celebrity.)

But today, Kevin Pollak took us by surprise by teaming up with reality titan Mark Burnett on a new game show.

'Our Little Genius' will premiere on Jan. 13 in TV's most enviable time slot: right after the first Paula-less 'American Idol' on Fox. Pollak will host 'Genius,' which will feature child prodigies showing off their knowledge for cash prizes.Kevin PollakSome of the rogues in the 1995 film classic 'The Usual Suspects' have made their way to TV recently. But today, Kevin Pollak took us by surprise by teaming up with reality titan Mark Burnett on a new game show.

'Our Little Genius' will premiere on Jan. 13 in TV's most enviable time slot: right after the first Paula-less 'American Idol' on Fox. Pollak will host 'Genius,' which will feature child prodigies showing off their knowledge for cash prizes, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Pollak is no stranger to series TV (CBS's "Work With Me," briefly seen on CBS's 1999 schedule) but one has to ask: Will this game show be edgy enough for the side-splittingly funny actor, comic and impressionist? Will he try to throw off the competitive kiddies by doing the entire show as Christopher Walken? (rent the DVD of 'The Aristocrats' to see Pollak tell the documentary's shocking joke as Walken, and as Albert Brooks.)

It's also worth noting that Pollak is not leaving movies behind. Terrific in supporting roles in 'A Few Good Men' and 'Miami Rhapsody,' he just finished shooting 'Columbus Circle,' a film he also co-wrote. 'Circle''s cast includes Selma Blair and 'Inglourious Basterds'' Samm Levine.

Like a contestant's fortunes, game shows can go either way. 'You Bet Your Life' only added to Groucho's legend. But we preferred Wayne Brady's work on 'Whose Line is it Anyway?' (and 'Chappelle's Show') to 'Don't Forget the Lyrics.' Here's hoping 'Our Little Genius' is the right answer for Pollak.

Give the actor a script so we don't have to deal with his real ineptitude when he speaks about FOX's blunder. He says, "They never had a chance to win that money. Ever. No matter what," Kevin Pollak told The Hollywood Reporter. "They got the last question wrong. None of the clips show the last question."

Breaking ones stride and confidence does affect the outcome.
