Stephen Colbert makes Canada jokes, speedskater calls him a jerk

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 4th 2009 4:29PM
As you've probably heard, Stephen Colbert is sponsoring the U.S. Olympic speedskating team. He raised around $300,000 for it. But that's not good enough for at least one of the players, Shani Davis. At a press conference yesterday, he called Colbert a jerk for making jokes about Canada in an episode of The Colbert Report last month. Here's the segment. You be the judge.

The speed skater is a jerk for not realizing that Stephen Colbert is speaking purely in character on television. It's like calling Eric Cartman a jerk for making jokes about Jewish people.

Stephen Colbert is not sponsoring the team. The Colbert Nation is. Credit where it's due.

No big deal. Colbert's jerky persona is supposed to be funny.

I felt it was a little much when the interviewer on the show went off on a tangent about cheating in a previous race where the rink attendant slightly melted the ice.
