Psych does Private Eyes like Hall and Oates

psych_james_brolin_westThey're at it again! This time instead of Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney doing "Ebony and Ivory," Shawn and Gus are re-creating Hall and Oates doing "Private Eyes." And this time, the rest of the cast are included as private eyes, too.

The Psych team is nothing if not original when it comes to their promotions. The only thing missing in this one is a pineapple.

Before taking a look at the video, just a reminder that Psych is coming back on Wednesday, January 27 at 10 p.m.

Yes, you read that right, Wednesday. Psych has been a fixture on Fridays, usually following Monk. In fact, a lot of experts wonder if Psych will do as well in the ratings without the Monk lead in. We shall see. Anyway, check out the promo video:

I'm looking for a bit of a bounce back half season from Psych, and this new promo video is very encouraging. The last batch of episodes seemed a bit awry to me. For instance, as much as I like James Brolin, his appearance in the Old West tourist trap show, couldn't disguise that it wasn't a great installment. It was a funny shout out to West World, but the episode sort of petered out at the end.

On the other hand, Gus and his singing group from college -- which they wanted to call QuarterBlack when Shawn joined in -- was very good. Urkel was in it!

You can't expect every show to be excellent, but still... Psych needs to live up to the promo.

I had no problem with this season. All the episodes were themed, but they were all funny too.

For anyone who doesn't know, the blond detective is James Roday's GF in real life.

My favorite part is that Lassie is totally using traditional grip for the drumming. Not a lot of fake drummers bother.

Still bummed not to have a Christmas episode. That was one of my favorite things about the holiday television season past few years.

Wednesday huh?... why is it everyone lumps their shows on one day? Fridays had so little to watch it was nice to have something worth looking at.

I love this show, but if other shows that I have scheduled to dvr conflict, this show will lose out and I will have to wait till the seasonal "re-run marathon" to see the show.

You don't even have to wait that long: USA usually reruns its original episodes over the weekend.

According to The Futon Critic's listing for the show (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch.aspx?id=psych&view=listings) there will not be a Christmas episode this year.

No xnifex, they did a Halloween themed one (Let's Get Hairy) instead of a Christmas one this year.

As for the uneven eps in the first half-- that's because there were some written by new-ish writers. The one with Gus' college buddies, High Top Fade Out, on the other hand was by James Roday and a writer who has written a number since Season 2-- Saladin Patterson.
