Batman and Robin did their Christmas shopping at Zayre

When I was a kid, the big department store in my area (Boston) was Zayre. Anyone else remember that chain?

Here's an interesting TV commercial for the stores. Apparently Batman and Robin shopped there. And not as Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson, they actually shopped as Batman and Robin, in their costumes. Yeah, I'm sure that didn't cause a ruckus.

My memory of the store is definitely "Zayre's", with the S - glad to see another commenter remembers it the same way, even if it might be wrong? Unless they changed their name at some point, because the text in the video clearly calls itself in the singular. Compare to another local landmark "Spag's" that clearly had the possessive S, being "the store owned by Spag".

I think "Zayre's" was a discount store, it's colors were a nasty orange and white as I remember. Maybe Zayre, with their black and white colors, were the original. Especially since the group remembering that store called it a department store (the true department stores in our area were G.Fox and Steigers )

From the Lowell area myself - awesome flashback. But it's a shame that billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne bought his friends crap from Zayre.

I remember Zayre's. In the Chicago Land area there's still some black and white striped box stores that are sitting vacant.
