ET phones home at Christmas, finds nobody cares

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 8th 2009 11:25AM
The ET game that Atari came out with in 1982 is known as one of the biggest disasters in video game history. It was rushed into production because of the movie and it wasn't that great a game and it didn't sell well, forcing thousands of cartridges to be buried in landfill in New Mexico.

Here's the ad that introduced it at Christmastime.

I remember having the game, and playing it quite a bit. I remember them releasing one for Porky's, as well.

I had that game. I played it, though I remember it being kind of pointless and not that interesting. But I still played it.

I don't remember the game being good or bad, but I definitely remember having it and playing it. This is the first time I've seen it described as "one of the biggest disasters in video game history."

As many as 5 million E.T. cartridges may have been buried.
