Colbert ignores U.S. speed skater who called him a jerk, for now

by Danny Gallagher, posted Dec 9th 2009 8:03PM
It's been two days worth of new episodes now and Stephen Colbert has suddenly stopped talking about his beloved Olympic speed skating team. It's a surprise since the man has given more props to his sponsorship of the team than Gatorade does for the Super Bowl.

That may be because team member Shani Davis called Colbert a "jerk" for running his smear campaign against the Canadians, a smear campaign that seemed to get the Canadians to back and give his team practice time on Canada's ice. It even almost seemed as though Colbert was going to address the name-calling in his opening "Who's Attacking Me Now" segment on Monday, but instead went into the comments made by White House Recovery Act Coordinator G. Edward DeSeve.

Should Colbert call out Davis for his name calling and more importantly, will he?

You know it's possible that Colbert's actually not that nice of a guy in real life, right?

Shani Davis isn't too bright is he? I bet he never opened his mouth when his team was taking money from a corrupt now defunct bank, but when Colbert Nation (individual US citizens) take money out of the pockets to keep his sport fully sponsored for this years Olympics, you'd think he'd shut his mouth. If it wasn't the fans of Stephen Colbert's show he wouldn't be skating for any medals this year. I could care less if we had a speed skating Olympic team, but I thought it was great that fans of Stephen's show donated that much money to keep the them funded. Maybe Shani Davis would like to find a real job in this economy, than skate in circles for a living. What a shmuck!!!

I think Davis may be one of those people that still doesn't get Colbert is using satire and parody on his show.

Just for the record, the US team -was- offered time earlier in the year. They just didn't show up for it.

I think the speed skater should have kept his mouth shut. Colbert may have been a jerk, but no need to vocalize it, in the media. Through Colbert thousands of dollars are coming into the Speed Skating program, why bite the hand that feeds you?

If this was about Bill O'Reilly and not the "beloved" S.C., I wonder how the tune would change?

Yeah, I'm going to say it, Hypocrite...

The problem with comparing Colbert and O'Reilly is that one is satire and intentionally humourous, and the other is completely serious but manages to be laughable... That's the difference.
