Sanford sat down with Walters last night to discuss the steps she took in an attempt to save her marriage, her refusal to be seen as a victim, and the possibility of political aspirations in her future.

"What people didn't know is that I'd asked Mark to leave, without permission to see his woman in Argentina, or to see her anywhere, and he was to have no contact with the boys or myself for 30 days. My hope was that he would wake up from whatever he was in the throes of and maybe see what he might lose." Sanford said, agreeing with Walters that, ultimately, this strategy to save her marriage didn't work. She and her husband are still currently separated.

And yet, Sanford, who is currently penning a memoir entitled "Staying True" that will be released in April, refuses to be seen as a victim. "Certainly his actions hurt me, and they caused consequences for me, but they don't in any way take away my own self-esteem. They reflect poorly on him," she said.

In terms of pursuing a career in politics, Sanford flatly denied she has any plans to do so. "That'll never happen, she said, "because I have no interest."
