Word is, according to the Ausiello Files, Laurie will be directing his first episode of 'House' next month, set to air Mon., March 22. For Laurie, one of the most honored actors on TV, this could prove to be a revelatory assignment.

Ausiello quoted executive producer Katie Jacobs as saying that the script for the episode is "not a traditional" one, but declined to go any further.

For Laurie, maintaining House's bristling sarcasm and the simmering anger that keeps his character's kindness all knotted up will be part of the directorial challenge.

Audiences, meanwhile, may be hungering for House to surprise them a little bit after six tumultuous seasons on the air. Yes, they love to see House being all Sherlock Holmes-correct when it comes to triumphing in obscure medical matters.

But they may be also ready for House to lose a few more patients now and then. Better still, they may be ready for House to finally brush off his brusqueness and prove to Dr. Cuddy -- despite the current season's storyline -- that he's capable of loving more than himself and his Vicodin.
