Rasmussen responds to Fox News' fuzzy math

by Danny Gallagher, posted Dec 10th 2009 5:30PM
Rasmussen Reports
There's a joke that runs around journalism circles that people who seek a career in the printer's ink arts do so because they are horrible at math. Believe me, I'm no exception and I usually understand when a reporter or journalism scribe messes up the numbers in his or her addition. (That's the one with the cross, right?)

But even a third grade remedial math student could figure out what's wrong with the above poll that appeared on a recent episode of Fox & Friends stating the opinion of Rasmussen poll takers on the global warming email scandal. Here's a hint: it's not that they capitalized "Global Warming."

The reporting company not only refuted the faulty statistics but called it a "stupid deception." The actual poll had smaller figures that mirrored the same outcome but also included a fifteen percent "undecided" group the network somehow lumped and inflated into this poll. This kind of thing wouldn't happen if Fox simply allowed their fact checkers to wear sandals to work.

Why don't people understand that both side of the Global warming issue are probably right. Yes the climate change is cyclical, but how much of that change is natural & how much is due to man's footprint on this earth. Has man's presence & all the polution that we put out every day caused the change to accelerate & happen sooner? Plus we're cutting down the rain forest at the rate of 1000 acres a day. This is earth's natural filter to clean the air. We're making more & more polution & making the filter smaller & smaller every day.
Yep climate change would probably happen without us, but I'll bet we've accellerted & intensified it.

well,to the morons that watch and believe Faux News there is nothing that can be pointed out to them that will sway the opinion that they are correct and the rest of the world is wrong, the same as the fundamentalist christian movement, believe in what i believe or you are wrong. Thank god that we are able to stand up and say what we believe. Fox is meant for those that think we should all shut up. Funny how they have forgotten that they did not win the election, they werent even able to steal it this time.

Gee, it looks like Fox News has picked up their math skills from Congress and the Obama administration.

Dead on, Joyce. LOL. And by the way, Paul, I don't believe either side until I search as hard as I can for the TRUTH. Try it sometime, you will see both sides have an agenda. Liberals just thrive on lying to cover their anti-American agenda.

LAUGHING!!!!!!!!!

People, people, people! Don't waste your time arguing this latest outright lie. As all lib bloggers and media specialize in, Danny Boy has used Rasmussen's OWN numbers to accuse FOX of wrongdoing. The following is straight from Rasmussen's website. The link is below it.

"Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Americans say it's at least somewhat likely that some scientists have falsified research data to support their own theories and beliefs about global warming. Thirty-five percent (35%) say it's Very Likely. Just 26% say it's not very or not at all likely that some scientists falsified data"

Game, set, match, Laughing. That was too easy. You'd think he wouldn't have named Rasmussen as part of the story, that way nobody could go check. Not that lefties reading it care regardless. Remember when media used to keep tabs on The Establishment and those in power? Now that The Establishment is full of leftists, they cover for them and do their best to destroy anybody that doesn't cover for them. Like Fox. Saran Wrap is less transparent. It's a pity. It isn't working, but it's a pity. Guys like Edward R Murrow and Walter Kronkite must be rolling in the graves.

This "opinion poll" is an example of the only thing Fox news is good for, a good laugh. It's great to relax in the evening by turning on any number of web-sites and there's the latest Fox news screw-up. Many times it's several screw-ups in one day. Fox is the funniest thing that's ever happened. I just love it when the ditto heads start foaming at the mouth in defense of the only news outlet that presents a point of view catering to libertarians, john birchers, kkk'ers and flat earthers. Have ny of them every had a stroke reading these comments?

As apposed to many liberal news outlets that cater to left wing and liberal viewers that will accept anything as facts coming from them. I think you're the one who has had a stroke if you believe in everything you hear from the so called news channels that you watch. Another one with blinders on.

Every bad thing said about FOX News can be said about the liberal media. The liberal media was in the tank for Obama by not covering anything that put their messiah in a bad light. They've done their own BS propaganda and bashing, warped thinking, and ignoring of facts. They are not objective news organizations and are guilty of presenting their own prejudiced views as fact. The liberals here have blinders on and they can't, won't and don't bash the liberal media as being guilty as those they bash. Typical liberals.

The fact that faux news is higher rated than the other news networks is a sad commentary of our public school system. While much of the bible belt is wasting time shoving the fraud that is creationism down kids throats,we are way behind much of the developed world in science scores. Also it was the conservatives who turned a budget surplus into a deficit and lied to the world about the reason why we invaded Iraq.

The numbers came directly from Rasmussen. Gallagher is more guilty than Fox for not checking sources.

This wasn't just some minor, little slip-up that Fox did. This was like another one of their major intentional lies. They pushed all of the undecided into another category or categories of an opinion poll! Are you kidding, who else in the history of media has tried to get away with pulling that kind of stunt? Please, name the media and exactly when and how they did this to an opinion poll.

Since when is pointing out mistakes "bashing"? This is not the first time Fox has shown poll numbers that added up to something north of 100%. Maybe it's like Colbert said--facts have a liberal bias.
