New Simpsons 20th anniversary poster will make your eyes bleed yellow blood

by Danny Gallagher, posted Dec 16th 2009 9:00PM

Think you can identify every Simpsons character ever in the history of the known universe? Be our guest.

Fox has unveiled a huge new poster of all of the show's characters in the last 20 years. You can see a bigger image of the breathtaking new poster here.

It's actually quite detailed and goes well beyond the two decade long scope of the actual show. A quick scan of the characters turned up a shot of Marge and Homer from their short days on The Tracey Ullman Show.

Yeah, the original version was a puzzle and a poster and the cover of a trivia game and every Simpsons fan's computer wallpaper some years ago. Looks like you can still buy the poster on Amazon and other places.

While I like the idea of the update, and it's fun to see George Lucas, James L. Brooks, the Golem, the fake angel, etc. added to the mix... it's REALLY poorly composited. For some reason, the blob of characters from the original poster has a heavy black shadow behind it, and new characters are either partially obscured by the shadow or awkwardly placed over it. While the original looked like an overhead "photo" of a huge crowd gathered on a single inclined plane (or bleachers or something), now feet are pasted over faces, whips float in midair, etc. Just terrible execution, that really detracts from the quality of the image.

Hasn't this been around as a jigsaw puzzle for quite some time now?

What are the standards for what is a new character? Does one "Homer" cover ALL Homers? Cuz I don't see alot of the Halloween versions of the characters here.

The central part of that poster (prob about 75%) was released several years ago as a puzzle. They've added more recent characters around the edges, it looks like. I've stared at that picture for hours working on the puzzle.
