J. Abrams has decided to add a man-sized helping of 'Soul Food' to his plate.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Boris Kodjoe, who is best known for playing Damon Carter on Showtime's popular drama 'Soul Food,' has been tapped to play the lead role in 'Undercovers,' the latest project from 'Lost' and 'Fringe' mastermind Abrams.

Kodjoe will be playing Steven Bloom, an ex-spy whose idyllic retirement is cut short when he and his wife Samantha (also a former government agent) are called back to active duty to track down a rogue agent who happens to be one of her exes. While the role of Samantha has yet to be filled, Kodjoe joins a cast that already boasts veteran actor Gerald McRaney, who is no stranger to action thanks to his turns on 'Jericho,' 'Deadwood' and 'Simon & Simon.' As we reported earlier this week, McRaney will play the couple's CIA boss.

'Undercovers' marks a return of sorts for Abrams, who rose to fame with his work on the spy series 'Alias.' While that series revolved around a labyrinthine mythology, however, 'Undercovers' is expected to have a lighter and more accessible tone despite being described as 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'-meets-'The Bourne Identity.' And while specifics are still sketchy, this sort of formula has worked well for NBC subsidiary USA Network, which scored big with the similarly themed 'Burn Notice;' adding hitmaker Abrams to the mix seems like a formula for sure success.
