'American Idol' is getting its old timeslot back on Wednesdays.

Starting Jan. 27, Fox will swap 'American Idol' with the midseason series 'Human Target,' with 'Target' airing at 8PM and 'Idol' moving back to its familiar timeslot at 9PM. 'Idol''s first two Wednesday night episodes of the season (airing Jan. 13 and Jan. 20) will still air at 8PM, according to Variety.

Starting Jan. 27, Fox will swap 'American Idol' with the midseason series 'Human Target,' with 'Target' airing at 8PM and 'Idol' moving back to its familiar timeslot at 9PM. According to Variety, 'Idol' will still air at 8PM on Jan. 20, one week before the switch.

If anything, this shows a sign of good faith in 'Human Target' (premiering Jan. 17), which will now get the coveted 'Idol' lead-in. The show, starring Mark Valley, Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley, is based on a DC Comic and graphic novel about a vigilante bodyguard.

'American Idol' season 9 kicks off Tue., Jan. 12 at 8PM. New this year on 'Idol' will be the introduction of mega-judge Ellen DeGeneres and loss of Paula Abdul, both big wild cards in the show's staid, formula-driven success.
