Review: Survivor Samoa - Two Brains Are Better Than One

Jeff Probst reads the votes on Survivor Samoa
(S19E13) Mark your calendars now, folks. The big three-hour finale night for Survivor is this Sunday, December 20, starting at 8 PM ET. The night will start off with the two-hour finale followed by the reunion hour. But we still have a few bodies to cast off the island before they face the jury. Will the original Foa Foa Four make it intact to the final four? Will Russell manage to sell his snake oil all the way to the jury and win the million?

Well, Russell just might win it all. The promos tried to make it appear that he would be in trouble this week. But it wasn't to be. All his trouble was that he had to change his plans and vote off his true blue mullet babe Shambo. I understand why he wanted to keep her around. She's someone that almost anyone could beat with the jury ... especially after her speech at tribal council tonight. The woman isn't too bright. Why would you call yourself a traitor when the jury is made up of the people you betrayed?

To be honest, I think that Mick and Jaison are probably out of the running for the million. Sure, if they were only up against each other for the vote, one would win. For the jury to be an uneven number, it's going to have to be a final three before them, not two. Neither of the guys are all too popular nor do they seem respected by the ex-Galu jury. Mick has been too laid-back through the season while Jaison almost quit. But, at least Jaison has a plan. Mick seems to have none.

Brett, the only Galu remaining, should be a dead man walking. Instead, the kid has kicked up his game. Looking at how poorly all of the ex-Foa Foa do on challenges, he could very well win immunity a few more times. He's good at the mental and physical challenges. If he can make to the finals, he'd be the sure bet for every ex-Galu on the jury. Heck, Natalie might even vote for him unless he's against Russell.

Then there's Natalie. I think she and Brett are going to be the dark horses in the game. While she seemed almost smitten with Brett, we found out tonight how loyal she is to Russell. I can only wonder what she has to say now with his "dumb blond" alliance mentions on the show. Nonetheless, I think she'll remain true to Russell to the end. I believe the jury would vote for Russell for the win if they base it on gameplay.

I'm surprised each week, yet not surprised at all, that no one is thinking of blindsiding Russell. Looking at the Foa Foa Four, they really do trust him. Mick is probably the most skeptical one. But Natalie and Jaison trust him to the final three. And, I think Russell will take them there if Brett stops winning immunity. Russell is devious, slimy, and underhanded, but he's playing a damn good game this season. He's made some mistakes and he tends to talk too much and be too cocky. However, when you're surrounded by sheep, you can be a baaaad dude and win it all. Do you think they'll betray him?

I dislike Russell immensely but agree that if he makes it to final 3 he should win. His cockiness drives me up a wall though. For that reason I hope that Brett wins a couple more comps at least, just so that Russ has to work a bit harder to get there. So far he has easily led the sheep to the slaughter. I, too, doubt that Brett will make it to the final 3, and also realize that he has the best chance of a win with the Galu jury, so Russell will do whatever it takes to get rid of him. I won't miss Shambo at all. Her total lack of people skills got on my nerves. If Natalie makes it to final two with Russ, he will tear her apart as a coattail to the jury. Mick, as cute as he is, has done little to deserve being in the final 2 and I don't see him getting that far. I also doubt that Russell will want Jaison next to him in final 2 because he knows the man has skills to possibly talk himself to a win. I want Russell to work for this, if only to lose a bit of that cockiness. IF that is possible.

I can't wait until next season to see if Russell was able to work his magic on All Stars. Lucky for him, it was taped before this season aired, so he may catch them off guard like the sheep on this season.

I don't see the jury rewarding Russell's bravado and personality, and the glaring flaws in his social game will cost him.

The past winners who have had that real cocky edge to them have won because they played nice when it mattered, were respectful of those who they put in the jury, or because the person next to them was just as nasty as they were.

Russell has none of those things going for him. He's Richard without the likableness and respectfulness. He's Brian without a Clay (or two in this case) to bring to the end with him. He's Todd without the likableness and social bonds.

Anyway, as for who I think will win, it's honestly looking like a big toss-up outside of Russell. I don't see Brett making it to the end, so out of the other three I would put my money on Jaison or Natalie. Natalie has been the token nice girl and looks to have made good social bonds, but at the same time I can see that not being enough if she crumbles in front of the final jury, which is an area I think Jaison has a chance of really shining in.

I agree about Russell's social game. If Natalie somehow gets to the final jury, she will need to avoid going down the god's warrior path.

I'm only sure that Russ would want Mick with him. After that, between Jaison and Natalie, it would be a hard choice. Jaison obviously should do well at final jury, but Russell could as well if he watches that cocky streak.

I don't see Brett getting that far.

after learning from Russell, that Shambo uses her bush hairdo, to hide extra food, chicken and coconuts according to him, I was waiting to see if she was going to pull out a hidden immunity idol from her mop top during the tribal council meeting, after all the producers could have hidden one in there.
